Abstract

901,070. Tunnels. EXPANDED METAL CO. Ltd. April 26, 1961 [April 28, 1960], No. 15020/60. Class 85. A roof support for mine roadways comprises an arch structure built up of units 1, 2, each consisting of metal sections 4, 5 secured to a sheet 7 of expanded metal. An intermediate I-section 6 is fired to the sheet between the channel sections 4, 5, and bracing bars 8 are connected to the I and channel sections. The lower ends of the units 1 may have channel stiffening 12 to which adjustable legs 11 are attached. Units 1, 2 are joined by fish-plates 3 to form an arch and adjacent arches are connected by bolts passing through holes 10. The units 2 have joints 15 permitting limited yielding under load.
