Abstract

1,244,640. Reciprocating pumps and motors. BORG-WARNER CORP. Sept. 10, 1968 [Oct. 18, 1967], No. 43075/68. Heading F1A. A fluid pump or motor 10 comprises a cylinder block 12 having a plurality of parallel cylinders 13 and pistons 14, a port block member 30, a valve plate member 36 which has intake and pressure ports (55), (56), Fig.3 (not shown), a seal assembly 60 surrounding each port (55), (56), and mounted on one of said members 30, 36 and including a seal member 61, Fig.2 (not shown), which is in contact with the other member, which is urged by a means responsive to fluid-pressure in the seal assembly. The valve plate 36 has limited relative movement with respect to the port block 30 and a plurality of pressure buttons 48 are disposed between said members to have fluid-pressure imposed therein to exert a balancing force upon said valve plate. Counter-bores (41) and (42) receive pressure buttons 48 and resilient "O" rings 49, and inlet and outlet ports (55), (56) each of which is provided with a sealing assembly 60 having a seal member (61) Fig.2 (not shown), a resilient member (62) of rubber like material, and a retainer (63). There is also provided a block plate (35), Figs.4 and 5 (not shown), which is drivingly connected to shaft 11 or which may be integral with the cylinder block 12 and has ports 70 which may be dished out. A retainer (82), Fig.6 (not shown), is splined to the drive shaft 11 which serves to retain-the cylinder block 12 in position, and also secures bushings 14a in the cylinders 13. In another embodiment, Fig.7 (not shown), pressure buttons 48 are mounted within the port block 30 and urged into engagement with valve plate 36 by pressure which is supplied from the pump outlet or by a charge pump to bores (80). The seal member 60 (not shown) may be mounted in port block 30 rather than in the valve plate 36. The swashplate 20 may be adjustable.
