(Cl. 103-16Z) This invention relates to fluid pumps and motors of the kind comprising in combination a hollow body, a rotor in the body, said rotor having therein a plurality of bores angularly spaced about its axis of rotation, a swash plate obliquely disposed relative to said axis of rotation at one end of the rotor, a plurality of plungers reciprocable in the bores respectively by their interaction with the swash plate as the rotor rotates, a valve plate in contact with the opposite end of the rotor, said Valve plate having formed therein ports through which the hores can communicate in turn respectively with an inlet and outlet in the body as the rotor rotates.
The object of the present invention is to provide in such a pump or motor a convenient means of eectng a fluid seal between the valve plate and the body.
According to the invention in a pump or motor of the kind specified the face of the valve plate adjacent the body is recessed immediately around each port formed therein so asto provide in each port a shoulder extending in a plane at right angles to the axis of the plate and there is located against each shoulder a rubber or resilient gasket, whilst within the recess is disposed an endless nylon or other plastic seal of L-cross-section having its one ange located between the gasket and the body and its other ange lying against the side of the gasket remote from the wall of the recess.

Referring to the drawings, whichV illustrate the invention as applied to a fluid pump there is providedV a hollow body 1 in which is journalled a shaft Z'carrying a substantially cylindrical rotor 3. In the rotor are a plurality of equiangular spaced bores 4 extending parallel to the axis of the rotor. Moreover, at one end of the rotor is an angularly adjustable swash plate 5. In the bores 4 respectively are a plurality of hollow plungers 6 carrying shoes 7 which co-operate with the swash plate in imparting axial movements to the plungers in one direction as the rotor is rotated. The shoes 7 are arranged to be held in contact with the swash plate by springs 8 partly accommodated within the bores 4 and the hollow plungers 6. Y

with the inlet 9 and outlet 1t), each port being of arcuate form with an arc of curvature struck from the centre of the plate. The ports 12, 13 are arranged to place the ends Vof the bores 4 in the rotor in turn, in communication with plate 5 are formed an inlet 9 and an outlet 10, whilst be-f Against the shoulder 14 in each port is located one of a pair of rubber or other resilient and endless gaskets 15 of a circular cross-section, each gasket being disposed in the corner between the shoulder and the wall of the port. Located against the inner side of the gasket is the one ilange of an endless nylon or other plastic arcuate sealing ring 16 of L-cross-section. The other flange of the arcuate sealing ring extends over the gasket adjacent the body into contact with which it is urged by the resilience of the gasket. Moreover, intermediate the ends of each arcuate sealing ring 16 may be provided a bridge piece 17 interconnecting the sides of the sealing ring so as to enhance its strength.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. Hydraulic apparatus comprising in combination a hollow body having at one end a portion which is provided with a fiat internal surface, and with an inlet and outlet extending from said flat internal surface at different positions, a shaft extending through the interior of said hollow body and the other end thereof, means whereby said shaft is rotatably supported at both ends of said hollow body, a rotor which is mounted on the portion of said shaft within said hollow body so that said rotor is rotatable with said shaft, and which is provided with a plurality of longitudinally extending bores in equi-angularly spaced positions, a plurality of pistons mounted within said bores, and extending from the end of said rotor remote from said inlet and outlet, a swash plate which is mounted within said hollow body at the end `thereof adjacent to the outer ends of said pistons, and
which is obliquely disposed relative to the axis of rotation of said rotor, shoes provided on the outer ends of said pistons, and in Contact with said swash plate, springs acting on said pistons for maintaining said shoes in contact with said swash plate so that said pistons are reciprocated during rotation of said rotor, a non-rotatable annular valve plate which is disposed between said Hat internal surface and the adjacent end of said rotor, and which is provided with a pair of spaced arcuate ports through which the adjacent ends ofthe bores in said rotor communicate in turn with said inlet and outlet during rotation of said rotor, the side of said valve plate adjacent to said flat internal surface being provided immediately around said arcuate ports respectively with a pair of recesses which form shoulders extending in a plane at a right angle to the axis of said rotor, a pair of resilient gaskets which are of circular cross-section, and which areMx disposed in said recesses respectively to bear against them'corresponding shoulders formed by said recesses, and a pair of arcuate sealing rings which are associated with said arcuate ports respectively, each of said sealing rings being of substantially L-shaped section, and having one of its ilanges disposed between the corresponding gasket and said flat internal surface, and the other of its flanges in contact with the internal side of the corresponding gasket.
2. Hydraulic apparatus according to claim l, and having a pair of bridge pieces located respectively intermediate the ends of said sealing rings, and interconnecting the sides of said sealing rings to enhance the strength thereof. Y

Claims (1)
1. HYDRAULIC APPARATUS COMPRISING IN COMBINATION A HOLLOW BODY HAVING AT ONE END A PORTION WHICH IS PROVIDED WITH A FLAT INTERNAL SURFACE, AND WITH AN INLET AND OUTLET EXTENDING FROM SAID FLAT INTERNAL SURFACE AT DIFFERENT POSITIONS, A SHAFT EXTENDING THROUGH THE INTERIOR OF SAID HOLLOW BODY AND THE OTHER END THEREOF, MEANS WHEREBY SAID SHSFT IS ROTATABLY SUPPORTED AT BOTH ENDS OF SAID HOLLOW BODY, A ROTOR WHICH IS MOUNTED ON THE PORTION OF SAID SHAFT WITHIN SAID HOLLOW BODY SO THAT SAID ROTOR IS ROTATABLE WITH SAID SHAFT, AND WHICH IS PROVIDED WITH A PLURALITY OF LONGITUDINALLY EXTENDING BORES IN EQUI-ANGULARLY SPACED POSITIONS, A PLURALITY OF PISTONS MOUNTED WITHIN SAID BORES, AND EXTENDING FROM THE END OF SAID ROTOR REMOTE FROM SAID INLET AND OUTLET, A SWASH PLATE WHICH IS MOUNTED WITHIN SAID HOLLOW BODY AT THE END THEREOF ADJACENT TO THE OUTER ENDS OF SAID PISTONS, AND WHICH IS OBLIQUELY DISPOSED RELATIVE TO THE AXIS OF ROTATION OF SAID ROTOR, SHOES PROVIDED ON THE OUTER ENDS OF SAID PISTONS, AND IN CONSTANT WITH SAID SWASH PLATE, SPRINGS ACTING ON SAID PISTONS FOR MAINTAINING SAID SHOES IN CONTACT WITH SAID SWASH PLATE SO THAT SAID PISTONS ARE RECIPROCATED DURING ROTATION OF SAID ROTOR, A NON-ROTATABLE ANNULAR VALVE PLATE WHICH IS DISPOSED BETWEEN SAID FLAT INTERNAL SURFACE AND THE ADJACENT END OF SAID ROTOR, AND WHICH IS PROVIDED WITH A PAIR OF SPACED ARCUATE PORTS THROUGH WHICH THE ADJACENT ENDS OF THE BORES IN SAID ROTOR COMMUNICATE IN TURN WITH SAID INLET AND OUTLET DURING ROTATION OF SAID ROTOR, THE SIDE OF SAID VALVE PLATE ADJACENT TO SAID FLAT INTERNAL SURFACE BEING PROVIDED IMMEDIATELY AROUND SAID ARCUATE PORTS RESPECTIVELY WITH A PAIR OF RECESSES WHICH FORM SHOULDERS EXTENDING IN A PLANE AT A RIGHT ANGLE TO THE AXIS OF SAID ROTOR, A PAIR OF RESILIENT GASKETS WHICH ARE OF CIRCULAR CROSS-SECTION, AND WHICH ARE DISPOSED IN SAID RECESSES RESPECTIVELY TO BEAR AGAINST THE CORRESPONDING SHOULDERS FORMED BY SAID RECESSES, AND A PAIR OF ARCUATE SEALING RINGS WHICH ARE ASSOCIATED WITH SAID ARCUATE PORTS RESPECTIVELY, EACH OF SAID SEALING RINGS BEING OF SUBSTANTIALLY L-SHAPED SECTION, AND HAVING ONE OF ITS FLANGES DISPOSED BETWEEN THE CORRESPONDING GASKET AND SAID FLAT INTERNAL SURFACE, AND THE OTHER OF ITS FLANGES IN CONTACT WITH THE INTERNAL SIDE OF THE CORRESPONDING GASKET.
