Abstract

1,224,626. Insulators. TRANSMISSION DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 18 June, 1969 [18 June, 1968], No. 28932/68. Heading H2C. A composite electric insulator is made from an insulating member 1, preferably of rectangular section fibre glass rod, protected by a tubular covering 3 built up from short preformed bodies 4, 5 which may be located radially on the rod by projections 6 and provided with sheds 10. These bodies are preferably of cycloaliphatic resin and are sealed one to another by similar resin in grooves 7 receiving walls 9. Any excess resin is squeezed mainly into the internal space which is to be filled with insulating resin, grease, or putty and the assembly is completed by end fittings 2 fixed to member 1 with resin or pins. If the end fittings are made dissimilar, one with a groove and one with a wall, then body 5 may be dispensed with and bodies 4 only used.
