Abstract
1309249 Cable joints BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 19 April 1971 [19 Dec 1969] 62032/69 Heading H2E An assembly interconnecting conductors of telecommunication cables comprises one or more lengths of plastics sheathed telecommunication cable extending through and fluidtightly welded to a cable-entry opening in the wall of a closed plastics housing, and electrical components enclosed in the housing interconnecting the conductors within the housing. The assembly shown, for connection between two telecommunication cables (not shown), comprises a housing of two tubular polythene bodies 21, 22 welded together at their open ends by an encirling moulded polythene body 24 and two stub-lengths 26, 26<SP>1</SP> of polythene sheathed telecommunication cable welded into respective cable entry openings 25, 25<SP>1</SP> by moulded polythene bodies 28, 28<SP>1</SP>, the ends of the stublengths without the housing being connected to the cables (not shown). Conductors of the stub-lengths are interconnected within the housing by means of the components, e.g. inductive loading coils and capacitors. One or more tubular plastics bodies open at both ends may be welded between the two bodies 21, 22, and the bodies may be lined with a metal sleeve reinforcement, optionally longitudinally split. Other embodiments show two cables entering at each end of the housing and with the tubular bodies stepped to form a peripheral wall parallel to and fitting around the stub length or lengths.
