Abstract

1,129,708. Suction apparatus for paper-making machines. VALMET OY. 11 Nov., 1966 [11 Nov., 1965], No, 50540/66. Heading D2A. A suction box 1 has a drop-leg 2 with an adjustable cross-section. The water passage through the drop leg 2 is defined by two fixed end walls 7 and two side walls 5 extending between the end walls 7. Each side wall 5 comprises a bent plate hinged at its upper edge to the suction box 1 with its lower edge extending into an overflow trough 3 and extends transversely of the fibre web on the wire of a Fourdrinier machine. A pipe (4) connects the suction box 1 to a vacuum source. The lower parts of the side walls 5 diverge, as shown, in normal operation but may lie parallel (Fig. 2) when the machine is started up.
