Abstract

1,127,790. Paper-making apparatus. HUYCK CORP. 21 Dec., 1965 [15 Dec., 1965], No. 54174/65. Heading D2A. In a Fourdrinier paper-making machine a foil element has a leading surface forming an acute angle with the wire in the direction of travel thereof, a trailing surface which curves away from the wire to create a zone of reduced pressure between the wire and trailing surface, and means communicating with this zone TO decrease the pressure therein. The foil or foils may be mounted in a box to which a subatmospheric (i.e. 0.15 inches of water below atmospheric) pressure of variable size may be applied, or alternatively a vacuum conduit may be connected to the zone through perforations in the trailing surface of the foil. The trailing surface may have a constant, or an increasing or decreasing radius of curvature. Preferably there is a planar top surface of the foil between the leading and trailing surfaces.
