Abstract
1,109,254. Aircraft undercarriages. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. 4 July, 1966 [23 June, 1965], No. 26632/65. Heading B7G. A wing-mounted aircraft undercarriage comprises a primary telescopic shock-absorber leg 1, 2, the inner slidable plunger member 2 of which carries a bracket 5 provided with a pivot 6 for one end of an arm 7 on the other end of which the ground wheel 9 is rotatable, and a link 11 interconnects the arm 7 intermediate its ends with a secondary shock-absorber plunger 4 slidable in the main plunger 2. The secondary shock-absorber is resistant to the majority of vertical loads, whereby normal loads are absorbed by the primary shock-absorber and excessive loads, caused, e.g., by the wheel 9 striking an obstruction, result in actuation of the secondary shock-absorber to permit rearward displacement of the ground wheel. The shockabsorbers are hydraulic and of conventional construction, Figs. 3 and 3a (not shown). To retract the undercarriage an hydraulic jack 28 is operated, the undercarriage being looked in its operative and inoperative positions by spring-box jacks 30, 29.
