Abstract
1,046,143. Making finned tubes. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Jan. 25, 1965 [Jan. 24, 1964], No. 3228/65. Heading B3A. In a method of manufacturing a finned tube, a metal strip 4 has an upstanding fin 2 and a recess 6 aligned with the fin and of a radius equal to the internal radius of the tube. The strip is rolled to a tubular shape with an open seam 7 which is then welded. A number of tubes may have the fins of adjacent tubes welded together to form a tube wall. In an alternative form, the strip may be formed with a central fin and a half fin along either edge (Fig. 4, not shown) so that the welded seam is formed along a fin.
