Abstract
643,890. Tubular heat-exchange elements. HUET, A. Nov. 11, 1947, No. 29970. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1946. [Class 64(iii)] [Also in Group XXII] A heat-exchanger tube made of bent metal strips welded together, and having approximately tangentially projecting, longitudinal fins lying in parallel planes, comprises two strips 6 each having between its longitudinal marginal regions 8, 10, constituting fin-forming portions, a portion constituting an arc of the tube wall, a marginal region of each strip having its longitudinal edge welded to another strip :and being shaped to form with that other strip a hollow fin which is wide at its root, two such fins being spaced around the tube 180 degrees apart. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the tube comprises also an intermediate strip 5 to which the edges of the outer strips 6 are welded along spaced parallel lines, or in a single line only. The strip 5 may carry fluid diffusing means, or be deformed to provide conical surfaces on opposite sides, as described in Specification 634,751. In another form of tube, Fig. 4, the intermediate strip is omitted, the extreme edges of the strips 6 being welded together at the tips of the fins. Protuberances 15 may be provided on one or each of the opposed portions 8, 10 of the strips 6, contacting the other of said portions, and they may be spotwelded thereto.
