Abstract

1,032,336. Tamper-proof snap-on caps. E. GOLDE. April 2, 1965 [April 16, 1964], No. 14159/65. Heading B8T. A tamper-proof snap-on bottle cap 2, preferably of plastics, has a tab 5 connected to a skirt 7 by a thin web 6 which tears upon lifting of the tab to remove the cap, which is re-usable in this condition. In the embodiment of Figs. 4, 5 (not shown), the tab is in the form of an inverted open pocket having thin side walls, a V-shaped upwardly facing notch being cut at the junction of the tab and skirt, leverage being applied to the cap by the abutment of the sides of the notch on further lifting of the tab with subsequent tearing of the pocket sides. A sealing disc, including a hollow annulus projecting into the bottle neck, seats in a circumferential groove in the top of the skirt. In the embodiment of Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), the front wall of a pocket-shaped tab has a thick frame and thin centre, the centre being connected to the skirt by a thick bridge member, and breaking with the pocket sides on application of pressure to the tab. A sealing insert, similar to that above described, is attached to an inner depending skirt on the cap. A disc of material having low CO 2 permeability may be placed between the cap and insert. Alternatively, either may have a coating of such material.
