Abstract

952,962. Stoppers. AMERICAN CAN CO. July 2, 1962 [July 6, 1961; Feb. 1, 1962], No. 25307/62. Heading B8T. A glass container 11, the neck 15 of which is adapted to be sealed by an aluminium cap 12 having a flat top wall 33 and a depending skirt 34, is characterized in that the neck 15 is provided with an annular bead 18 having an outwardly and downwardly extending upper surface 21 and a lower surface 23 extending downwardly and inwardly from the upper surface 21 to include an acute angle therewith, the combined lengths of the surfaces 21, 23 not exceeding the length of the skirt 34. An auxiliary bead 26, spaced from the bead 18 by a surface 31, facilitates crimping of the skirt 34 to form a flange 35 which is held in the channel formed by the beads 18, 26. In this way the cap 12 is held in place against the pressure of the contents of the container. A gasket 41 is secured inside the cap to seal the container. In order to facilitate removal of the cap the top wall 33 is scored at 45, 46 and the skirt 34 is extended to form a tongue 47. The skirt 34 is cut away at 52 on both sides of the tongue 47 so that the tongue will not tear off.
