Abstract
1,029,271. Steam boilers; superheaters. SUPERHEATER CO. Ltd. Jan. 15, 1963 [Jan. 22, 1962], No. 2266/62. Heading F4A. In a vapour generating and/or heating unit of the downwardly-fired type, the superheater and/or reheater heat absorbing surfaces are located in the region of the roof of the combustion chamber. In the form shown, the unit comprises a combustion chamber 1, downwardly fired by comer burners 3. Combustion gases leaving the chamber 1 flow over pendent final superheaters 15, 16 and a reheater 21, and then flow upwardly in a pass 2 in which are located primary superheater sections 10 . . . 12 and economizers 19, to an outlet 20. Horizontal vapour heating tubes 4 form a roof to the combustion chamber. Between the burners 3 and the chamber roof are disposed a series of platens 8 of superheater and/or reheater tubes. The vapour passes successively through the tubes 4, the superheater tubes 8, the primary superheater sections 10 . . . 12, and final superheaters 15, 16, to the high pressure stage of the turbine. In a modification, the platens 8 may be inclined to or may be parallel with the flow direction of the gases. The burners may alternatively be located in the side walls, in the front and rear walls, or in the roof of the chamber.
