668,504. Steam superheaters. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. April 24, 1950 [April 26, 1949], No. 10080/50. Class 123(iii) A steam &c. boiler comprises a downwardly-fired combustion chamber 10 lined with steam-generating tubes 12, 13, 14, a vertical gas pass locating, in succession, a superheater 32 and economizer 34, and a byepass 42 also lined with steam-generating tubes and fitted with dampers 48 for regulating the final steam temperature. The lower ends of the passes are screened by inclined sections 50, 52 of the tubes defining the walls 38, 40 of the byepass, and the dampers 48 may be controlled automatically in response to variations in the final steam temperature.
