Abstract

Cellular vinyl chloride polymers are obtained by adding to the polymer a blowing agent containing an N-N bond and as activator a mixture of a Zn salt of an organic monocarboxylic acid of 8-24 C atoms, phenol or an alkyl phenol, and a K salt of a monocarboxylic acid of 8-14 C atoms, phenol or an alkyl phenol, and heating the mixture to decompose the blowing agent. The preferred blowing agent is azodicarbonamide. The salt mixture may be added as a solution in hydrocarbon, alcohol or glycol ether solvents. Various organic acids are specified including hydroxy acids, unsaturated acids, and mono esters of dicarboxylic acids. Additional stabilizers specified include epoxides, organic phosphites and alkyl substituted phenols or alkali or alkaline earth salts thereof. The preferred Zn/K ratio is 10/1 -\ba10/10 .
