Abstract

The invention comprises steroids having the formula <FORM:0972953/C1/1> wherein X is OH or Cl, R is (H)OAC when there is a double bond in the 5, 6-position and =O when there is a double bond in the 4, 5-position; and Ac is the radical of an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, or aromatic carboxylic acid having 1-9 carbon atoms and a process for the preparation thereof by treating the corresponding 21-methylene-steroid with diethanolamine in an organic solvent so as to yield the corresponding 21-diethanolaminomethyl-steroid, which is chlorinated where appropriate, so as to yield the corresponding 21-(bis-(b -chloroethyl)]-amino-methyl steroid. As organic solvent there may be used tertiary butyl alcohol, and as chlorinating agent there may be used mesyl chloride.
