Abstract

1,014,560. Diffusers for tubular lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 19,1964, No. 20600/64. Heading F4R. A diffuser for tubular fluorescent lamps comprises an open-ended body 1 of tubular form having a longitudinal gap 2 extending throughout its length and a plurality of spaced internal ribs 3 extending throughout the length of the body for engagement with the surface of the lamp envelope 6. The free ends of the ribs 3 may be on a circle of smaller radius than the lamp envelope. When the lamp has a reflecting coating on part of the inner surface, the lower ribs may be spaced about by an angle greater than that subtended by the window of the lamp so as not to obstruct the direct or reflected light. The body may extend beyond the lampholders and be closed by end caps. The surface of the body may be provided with diffusive reeding. In a modification, the body is non- circular, having a flat surface provided with longitudinal triangular ridges below the lamp.
