Abstract

A filament lamp comprises a bulb 1 secured in a metal cap 2 having a substantially rectangular cross-section, the cap being secured in a flange 5 extending at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the lamp by means of soldered joints between the surface of the cap and upturned portions 6, 7 at the edge of the aperture in the flange. Orientating means comprising projections 8, 9 or apertures are provided in the flange to co-operate with apertures or projections in the lamp holder. The projections 8, 9 or apertures may be asymmetric to the lamp axis and the flange may have one or more straight edge portions to co-operate with guides on the lampholder.
