Abstract
1,003,213. Mixing solids with flowing liquids. P. SCHMITT. Nov. 28, 1961 [Nov. 29, 1960 ; June 19, 1961], No. 42508/61. Heading B1C. A device for dissolving a solid to a desired concentration in a flowing liquid comprises a container having a cylindrical transparent chamber A in which the solid rests on a perforated bottom 1. The liquid flows in at 3, passes through the orifices 5 and up through the solid, the solution thus formed passing through the orifices 6 and out of the device at 4. When the flow is interrupted, the liquid which may be left in the apparatus or flow into it due to variations of mains pressure may dissolve a greater quantity of solid than the corresponding volume would in passing through the chamber ; a funnel-shaped draining device 2 is therefore provided to conduct such concentrated solution into the collecting chamber B. Solution from the chamber B may be added gradually to the outflow at 4 by means of the valve 10, or by means of the valve 9 be swept out at 7 in a stream of greater concentration than the normal outflow. In modifications, Figs. 2A and 2B (not shown), the liquid passes down through the solid.
