Publication of an early Roman offering table for the woman Tasouchion. The table probably came from the Fayum and was inscribed with a rare bilingual Hieroglyphic-Greek inscription. The Hieroglyphic text contains a ritual, while the Greek text offers a Greek version of the wellknown and widespread Latin epitaph sit tibi terra levis. Both texts are analyzed in the context of ancient funerary practices.

This study presents the reconstruction of a forgotten, private collection of Aegyptiaca, which is stored in the Egyptian Museum in Berlin since 1835. This year seventeen Egyptian pieces from the “Königliche Kunstkammer” in Berlin, namely the art collection of the Prussian postmaster general Karl Ferdinand Friedrich von Nagler, were transferred to the Egyptian collection. When the museum inventory of the Egyptian Museum was established at the end of the 19th century, their original provenance was already unknown. I was now able to establish the provenance and object history of the von Nagler Aegyptiaca within the Berlin Egyptian collection, and present my findings therein.

This preliminary survey of the typology of the ushabtis of the Divine Adoratrice Karomama G Merytmut from the Twenty-Second Dynasty deals with the items kept in museums as well as with those found in her tomb, rediscovered in 2014 in the Temple of Tuya. Her ushabtis and overseers divide into three and two categories, which differ from each other mainly in respect to the form of the wig. Currently, at least 69 workers and 10 overseers can be identified with certainty. To that total, one must add the numerous fragments found during the excavation, which cannot be assigned to either category due to their size and state of preservation.

In this paper I will analyze the bilingual epigraphic texts from Ptolemaic/ Roman Egypt, which contain Hieroglyphic, Demotic or Greek inscriptions. The analysis will be conducted by two object corpora from the private fields, namely tomb stones and the votive stelae as well as graffiti. I will primarily focus on the spatial ratio of the particular scripts on the writing surface, as well as on the mounting locations of the various parts of the texts. Therefore sacredness of a script will be interpreted not by its religious text content, but from the message of its physical attendance on the object.

The conquest of Egypt by Alexander the Great was a significant caesura in Egyptian history and marked the beginning of a new epoch for the Nile valley. My paper here will be focused on the Demotic epigraphy in the 4th century BCE, the known sources are examined and interpreted in their sociocultural context. In a second step, the situation concerning the use of demotic in private epigraphy will be compared with the situation at the beginning of another new era, the submission of Egypt under Roman rule.

Palaeographic studies are of major importance in Egyptology, not only for purposes of establishing date and provenance or deciphering words, but also for research on script development, local workshop contexts and socio-cultural embedding of the relevant script(s) in regional society. Palaeographies have been created for hieroglyphs and Hier-atic, as well as recently for the Cairo corpus of Demotic papyri. On the other hand, the Demotic epigraphical sources, especially those carved in stone, have generally received less attention from the point of view of palaeography. The study in progress introduced here aims to supply this desideratum. The presentation will give priority to methods, problems and the expected goals of my current project on this topic.
