Foreign trade directly affects the level of national income by exporting a part of on country's own production and importing part of the other countries produce. While there is an increasing in the total production of sugar, where the amount of production in 2012 was about one million tons and reached about 2.25 million tons in 2017, an increase of 1.25 million tons, however, this increase does not cope with the increase in population and then local consumption, which leads to resorting to imports. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the proposed scenarios that represent the best geographical distribution of sugar exports and imports. The results of the programming Goals indicated that the optimal scenario for the structure of export distribution of cane sugar is the second solution of the first scenario, that maximizes the export revenue, which represents the countries with the highest export price per ton of cane sugar. For cane sugar imports, the best scenario was the se...

The organic agriculture is no more a phenomenon of developed countries. The organic agriculture is revolutionary hitting the agriculture sector in Egypt. Fayoum governorate is considered the third between the Egyptian governorates with regard to the organic agricultural land and many researchers considered developing research about. The profitability of organic production is high when targeting international markets as the awareness of using organic products in Egypt is still in progress. Years of experience, area cultivated, and the growing method are constraints for the productivity per feddan of the organic production.

This article studies the Egyptian Herbs and Spices (H&S) sub-sector in order to increase the Egyptian market position in both local and international markets specially the European market (the main market for the Egyptian H&S). A value chain analysis has been performed. The value chain analysis included production, processing, and consumption phases. Production phase concerned with the main problems related to quality in cultivation, harvest, and post-harvest operations, especially as related to drying and storage processes. Processing phase mainly investigates the processors' numbers, size, location, types of products dealt with and main problems and challenges facing them, especially those related to quality of the product that determine its entrance into international markets. Consumption phase deals with H&S target market, quantities and market share on national and international markets, plus problems and challenges related to market access. At last, gravity model estimatio...

The study analyzed marketing variables of selected vegetables in Port Harcourt Metropolis, Rivers State, Nigeria. Specifically, the objectives (i) described the socio-economic features of the selected vegetable marketers; (ii) described the marketing costs and margins of the marketers; and (iii) determined the effect of the socio-economic features on the marketers’ margins. Statement of null hypothesis that socio-economic characteristics do not significantly affect the marketing of selected vegetables was stated. Multi stage, purposive and simple random sampling techniques were employed in selecting the sample size for the study. In all a total sample size of 90 respondents were chosen for the study. The objectives were achieved using simple descriptive statistics, marketing cost and margin analysis, as well as inferential statistics (multiple regression analysis). From the analysis, the results indicated that majority (77.8%) of the respondents were female, which implies that veget...

The study aims at identify the feeding scheme at which the home-raised broilers is economically effective. Data obtained through an investigation of a random sample of 500 households raising broilers at home using different feeding schemes using combinations of concentrated fodders and home food residues. Technical and profitability indicators have been estimated for the different schemes. Large households with females not employed and not educated are likely to use more home food residues in the home-raised broilers. The production index PI, adjusted production index API, and economic indicator EI are shown to be higher in the herds used more concentrated fodders than those used more food home residues although only those in the first scheme are considered good according to the API with API more than 100. The five schemes are shown to be profitable and the net revenue is shown to be high in schemes using concentrated fodders, however, the return on invested EGP is high in schemes u...

The results show that the average per capita of red meat, poultry, and fish were about 11.44, 16.18, 7.33 kg during the period from 1990 to 1994 and about 15.62, 11.66, 15.74 kg during the period 2004 to 2008, respectively. ANOVA has shown significant differences in the quantities consumed from poultry and fish between rural and urban areas but not the quantities consumed from red meat. As for the differences in the average prices; significant differences between rural and urban areas were realized. The most important factor affecting the demand of red meat in urban areas is the monthly income (income elasticity is 0.36). In rural areas, the factors are; the monthly income, the number of family members, and the price of fish. Elasticity was estimated as 0.37, 0.71, and 1.15, respectively. The most important factors affecting the demand of poultry in urban areas are; the price of red meat (cross elasticity is 5.61), the monthly income (income elasticity is 0.38). In rural areas, the factors are; the number of family members and the price of fish (cross elasticity is 0.86). The most important factor affecting the demand of fish in urban areas are; the price of red meat and the monthly income. Elasticity was estimated as 3.33 and 0.33 respectively. In rural areas, the factors are; the monthly income (income elasticity is 0.30) and the number of family members. The study recommends increasing the local production of red meat, concentrate on fish rising and production, and fight the diseases of poultry industry in Fayoum governorate.

ABSTRACT Purpose: the objective of this paper is to explore consumers' attitudes towards organic food in the capital of Egypt; moreover, there is a need to identify the motivations and barriers towards organic food consumption, as well as the willingness to pay for these products. Methodology: to achieve the purpose of this study, a field research - interview approach was selected. Data was collected through a questionnaire that targeted three groups of people in Cairo city: students at the Faculty of Agriculture at Cairo University, staff of the Faculty of Agriculture at Cairo University, and consumers of Carrefour hypermarket. Respondents were asked to fill in the questionnaire during a face-to-face interview. Findings: health concern is the first motivation of organic food consumers in Egypt; moreover, it is the first motivation for which consumers are willing to pay an extra premium for organic food over the price of conventional food. High prices of organic products and dis...

The paper aims at evaluating the determinants of agricultural bilateral trade flows of Egypt with the Arab countries. A gravity model has been used in addition to some other indicators such as relative importance of intra-trade, tendency to export and import, and degree of openness. Two models have been estimated; one is for the Egyptian agricultural exports and the other is for the imports. The biggest Arab partners who represent the majority of the Egyptian bilateral trade are; KSA, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Jordan, UAE, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Iraq. The main features of the gravity model have been introduced well. The gross domestic product has a positive impact on both agricultural exports and imports, and the distance between Egypt and the target countries has a negative impact. Both factors are statistically significant. It's recommended that Egypt encourage foreign investment within the agriculture sector and maintain the road transportation with Arab countries.

Findings: health concern is the first motivation of organic food consumers in Egypt; moreover, it is the first motivation for which consumers are willing to pay an extra premium for organic food over the price of conventional food. High prices of organic products and distrust of organic products’ genuineness are the major barriers towards organic food consumption.
Limitations: future studies in the field of organic food consumption will be more valuable if a broader survey takes place taking into consideration the population from all over the country. More places in Egypt need to be chosen, with other cities and people from all levels included (high class areas, people in popular areas, farmers in rural areas), in order to generalize the results.
Originality: this paper is one of few researches focusing on organic food consumption in Egypt.""

The AgroFood Company, which currently exports fresh chili peppers to European clients, desires to expand the product mix offered. The company, as it expands its production of fresh peppers for export, has an increasing supply of grade 2 peppers that are unmarketable in Egypt. However, an attractive market for processed frozen chili peppers exists in Europe. To expand their client base, capitalize on a value added product, and minimize product waste, the AgroFood Company desires to develop processing practices for chili peppers produced in Egypt. The AgroFood Company would like to identify its options in the processed pepper market. An analysis of the company, competition, consumer, market channel, and conditions, provides insight into possible solutions to the challenges faced by the farm management. Designed for undergraduate classroom use, this case will provide students with an opportunity to evaluate the merits of business expansion into a high capacity, automated mechanical processing facility for grade 2 vegetables.

Governments as well as enterprises are paying attention to E-commerce. Many agricultural countries have benefited from using the e-commerce applications in developing their agricultural exports such as Brazil and South Africa. The study aims at determining the impact of using e-commerce applications in developing the Egyptian exports of herbs. The results of the study shows a significant increase in the e-commerce indicators where the number of internet users, internet penetration, internet service providers ISPs, and number of computers have been increased by 11084%, 7193%, 509%, and 129% respectively during the study period from 1995 to 2009. As for the use of e-commerce by the Egyptian exporters of herbs, the results show that 70% of the enterprises use ADSL connection. It’s, also, shown that 50% of the companies have registered at electronic marketplaces and 26% of them have gained marketing opportunities via the website. Besides registering on websites of electronic marketplaces, 62% of the enterprises have their own website which varies from a registered domain to free hosted sub-domain. The use of email to contact potential buyers is a priority for 92% of the enterprises, and using it to place and accept orders is applicable by 72% of them. Other internet usages were, also, stated where 60%, 84%, and 66% of enterprises use internet to obtain information about inputs’ markets, currency exchange rates, and quality issues respectively. At last, the results show an important role of the internet in opening new marketing opportunities and increasing enterprises’ profitability. With regard to quantitative analysis, the results show a significant difference while comparing means of exports of chamomile, marjoram, fennel, mint, and geranium during the two periods 1980-1994 and 1995-2009. The study recommends:
 Establishing an Egyptian portal for herbs.
 Increase the awareness of the importance of using e-commerce applications in the herbs’ export industry.
 Train the personnel involved in the herbs’ export industry on e-marketing and e-commerce techniques.
