Changing trends and career


in Physical Education

Physical Educationist
Physical Education Meaning:

Physical education is a combination of two words ' physical ' and '
education ' the word physical referred to the bodily movement or body
action and the word education means modify the behaviour towards
progress or a process of gaining knowledge for improvement.

Definition of Physical Education:

According to JB Nash, physical education is that field of education


which deal with big muscles activities and their related responses.

According to Delbert oberteffer physical education is the sum of


those experience says which come to the individual through movement.

AIM of the physical education

According to J.F. Williams "aim of physical education is complete


living through wholesome development of human personality.
Objectives of Physical Education

 Physical development: this objective emphasizes the proper and


systematic growth and development of a human person regular
physical activity such as running, jogging and some jumping
exercises are the key to good health and fitness it improves the
efficiency of all the system of the body.

 Mental development: mental development is start from birth and


continues with the development of the child. mental development
includes the ability like imagining taking an instant decision,
perceiving, remembering, observing, thinking, solving problems
etc. In sports or games player have to take certain decision within
a fraction of second during the matches or games that require lot
of mental alertness and concentration.

 Social Development: we all know that man leaves in society and


he is a part of the society physical education and sports program
provide a better quality of the life by developing the social
responsibility and qualities of the student it provide theoretical
and practical experience test to develop socialization process.

 Emotional development: emotions such as sadness pleasure hope


jealous fear disasters anger loneliness etc are part of human life.
physical education and sports program are the best way to outlet
all the emotion in right and productive way.

 Neuromuscular Coordination: regular practice and repetition of


activities improve the neuromuscular coordination and help in the
proper use of energy during sports activity good coordinative
activities keep the of and help in quick recovery.

Change in trends in Physical Education

(A)The modern trends in physical education emphasis on overall


development of individual as well as society environment. It requires
like Safe play grounds, modern wearable gears, sports equipment’s,
technical advancements etc.

(B) Wearable gears: Today each game or sport needs specific type of
wearable gears or equipment’s which help in preventing injuries, better
gripping, better performance, easy identifying, hi-tech feedback etc.
These are like:

(1) Sports Clothing/ Kit: It is specific for each game depending upon
game-to-game and provide comfortable movement along with safety as
per rules of the game/sport. It is like Track-suit, Upper vest, Sports T-
shirt, Lower, Short, Legging, Slakes, Costume, Swim-suit, Vest, Jacket,
Judoki etc.

(ii) Shoes and Footwear: It is different for every game or sport and it is
according to the surface to provide good gripping over the surface as
per rules of the game/sport The different footwear are Jogger for
running, Spikes shoes for track running, Studs for football, Badminton
shoes, wrestling shoes, Boxing shoes, High ankle basketball shoes,
Volleyball shoes, pitching shoes, Sliding shoes, Ice skating shoes etc.
(iii) Sports Guards: These equipment’s prevent us from specific area
type of injury. It is also different for every game or sport as per the
game’s rules. Different sports guards are Helmet/ Hat/Cap (prevents
head injury, prevents eyes, sunlight etc); Face guard (used in boxing,
taekwondo etc);

(C) Technical Advancement in Sports: These are the smart devices by


which we can measure the distance covered, time, lap score, calories
burned, heart rate, breathing rate. pulse rate, blood pressure etc. Some
smart devices are smart watches, mobile phone/smart phone, video
recording, tracking device, touch sensors, ball throw machine etc.

Career options in Physical Education

As a Teacher of Physical Education: For choosing this as a career, one


must be well-qualified with certified Degree or Diploma in Physical
Education from a recognised University.

(ii) As a Coach: For this as a career one must have a certified Diploma
from NIS (National Institute of Sports) in a game or sport. He must
have good experience of playing and participating in the game.

(iii) As a Physical Training Instructor: To choose this as a career one


must possess certified diploma after 12th class and good physical
fitness abilities.

(iv) As a Fitness Trainer: To choose this as a profession the person must


be very fit and healthy. He should have the experience about the needs
of the group, team, etc., to give fitness schedule.
(v) As a Specialist or Official of Game: A good player can easily
become a specialist or official of the game. This is upcoming the
profession.

(vi) As a Yoga Instructor: This career has good prospects, as the need
of the society is coming up more towards yogic practice. Thus, yogic
techniques help to give therapeutic effect along with overcoming over
stresses of life. For this as a career one must have good experience of
performing and educating yogic techniques.

(vii) As a sports Journalist or Commentator: Today media, newspapers,


magazines, etc., need professional people of sports to perform in
journalism. So this career option is also coming up.

(viii) As a Dietician or Physiotherapist: An educated physical


educationist has good knowledge of Diets.

Fit India Movement

Fit-India Programme started on 29 Aug. 2019 by honourable Prime


Minister Sh. Narendra Modi. It was started with a vision to make
Physical Fitness a way of life. Fit-India programme aims at behavioural
changes - from sedentary lifestyle to physically active way of day-to-
day living. Fit-India Programme helps to make fitness an integral part
of our daily lives. The mission of the programme is to bring about
behavioural changes and moves towards a more physically active
lifestyle. To achieve this mission, Fit-India undertakes various
initiatives and conduct many events. Its Objectives are:

(i) It promotes fitness as easy, fun and free environment.

(ii) It spreads awareness on fitness and various physical activities that


promotes fitness through focused campaigns.

(iii) It encourages indigenous sports.

(iv) It makes fitness reachable to every school, college/university,


panchayat/village, etc.

(v) It creates a platform for citizens of India to share information, drive


awareness and encourage sharing of personal fitness stories.

Khelo India program

Khelo India program has been introduced in 2018 and launch by


government of India. The Khelo India programme has been introduced
to revive the sports culture in India at the grass-root level by building a
strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish
India as a great sporting nation.

Khelo India organises the following sports tournament:

1) Khelo India school games under 17


2) khelo India youth games under 19
3) khelo India youth games under 25
4) khelo India University games.
