development of physically, mentally, emotionally and socially fit citizens through the medium of
physical activities.
2. According to CC Cowell, "Physical education is the social process of change in the behaviour of
human organisms, originating primarily from the stimulus of social, big muscle, play and related
activities.
Topic 2- Aim of Physical Education
The aim of physical education must be to make every child physically, mentally and emotionally fit
and also to develop in him such personal and social qualities which will help him to live happily with
others and build him up a good citizen.
Topic 3. Objectives of physical Education
1. physical development
The foremost objective of physical education is physical development. In fact, it leads to the
development of our organ systems, such as the circulatory system, respiratory system, nervous
system,
muscular system and digestive system. Physical education is related to physical activities, and when
we perform these activities, there are various effects of these activities on our organ systems. These
systems witness growth in size, shape, efficiency, etc.
2. mental development
Mental development is related to the improvement of a person’s intellectual abilities, thinking power,
decision-making, reasoning, concentration, and emotional stability. In physical education, mental
development helps students become more alert, confident, and capable of handling various
situations in games and life.
3. social development
this objective is related to the improvement of an individual's ability to interact, cooperate, and build
healthy relationships with others. In physical education, social development is achieved through
group activities, games, and team sports, where students learn values like teamwork, leadership, fair
play, sportsmanship, tolerance, sympathy, cooperation, and respect.
4. Emotional development
Emotional development in physical education means developing the ability to understand and
control emotions, stay mentally strong, and behave positively in both winning and losing situations.

Topic 5- Khelo India
Khelo India is a national programme launched by the Government of India in 2017-18 with the
objective of reviving the sports culture in India at the grassroots level and building a strong
framework for all sports played in the country. It is managed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and
Sports.
Objectives of khelo India program
1. Mass Participation – Promote sports culture among youth and encourage participation at the
grassroots level.
2. Talent Identification – Spot young sporting talent and support their development.
3. Infrastructure Development – Improve sports facilities in schools and rural areas.
4. Financial Support – Provide ₹5 lakh/year scholarship for 8 years to selected athletes.
5. Sports in Education – Integrate sports into school and college education.
6. Career in Sports – Promote sports as a viable career option.
7. Fitness Awareness – Encourage physical fitness and wellness through regular assessments.
8. Inclusivity – Ensure participation of girls and differently-abled athletes.
Topic 6- FIT INDIA MOVEMENT
Fit India Movement was launched on 29 August, 2019 by our Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Shri
Narendra Modi at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi. It was launched with a view to make fitness
as an integral part of our daily lives. Its headquarters is in New Delhi. Fit India movement was
launched on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, India's hockey legend.
Objectives of Fit India movement
(i) To promote fitness as easy, fun and free.
(ii) To encourage indigenous sports.
(iii) To spread awareness on fitness and various activities that promote fitness through focused
campaigns.
(iv) To make fitness reach every school, college/university/village, etc.
(v) To create a platform for citizens of India to share information, drive awareness and encourage
sharing of personal fitness stories.
(vi) To create awareness about fitness among citizens and its importance in daily life through sports,
yoga, cycling, dancing, etc.
