Identification, Analysis and Prioritization of Issues for Reverse Logistics Performance System Using Preference
Rating Approach
Annual International Conference of the Society of Operations Management
To achieve the purpose, issues were identified on the basis of literature review and discussions with field experts.
To know the mutual importance of identified issues, a questionnaire was structured on a five point Likert scale (5-
most preferred factor and 1-least preferred factor) and sent to a number of experts to collect their opinions/data.
After collecting the data, factor analysis was performed using SPSS. From analysis, ten major factors were found
most significant to implement RL system effectively and efficiently. The relative importance of the ten major factors
is calculated using company preference rating (CPR) approach. For this, preference graphs (PG’s) have been
developed based on the opinions of groups of field experts (each group having similar opinion) using graph theory
based representation technique and thereafter relative importance rating (RIR) of the major factors have been
computed. Another approach known as company satisfaction assessment (CSA) was utilized in which competitive
strategies (CS) were identified and the relative importance of each RL factor with respect to every strategy was
obtained through a final survey. Further mathematical computation on the results allowed us to draw probability
distribution graphs for each factor which in turn provided the competitive priority rating of each factor with respect
to the corresponding competitive strategy.
