Final Preparation – Day 3
1. Find the circumference and area of a circle of diameter 28 cm.
2. A wire is looped in the form of a circle of radius 28 cm. It is rebent into a square form. Determine the
length of the side of the square.
3. If the perimeter of a semicircular protractor is 36 cm, find its diameter.
4. Two circles touch externally. The sum of their areas is 130π sq cm and the distance between their
centres is 14 cm. Find the radii of the circles.
5. A chord of a circle of radius 14 cm makes a right angle at the centre. Find the areas of the minor and the
major segments of the circle.
6. Find the radius of a circle whose perimeter and area are numerically equal.
7. An umbrella has 8 ribs which are equally spaced (as shown in the figure(1)). Assuming the umbrella to
be a flat circle of radius 42 cm, find the area between the two consecutive ribs of the umbrella.

8. In the given figure(2), ABCD is a square of side 10 cm and semicircles are drawn with each side of the
square as diameter. Find the area of the shaded region. [ use𝜋 = 3.14].
9. In the given figure(3), ABCD is a quadrant of a circle of radius 28 cm and a semicircle AECA is drawn
with AC as diameter. Find the area of the shaded region.
10. In the given figure(4), AB and CD are the diameters of a circle with centre O, perpendicular to each
other. OA is the diameter of the smaller circle. If OB = 7 cm, find the area of the shaded region.
11. A round table cover has six equal designs, as shown in the figure. If the radius of the cover is 28 cm, find
the cost of making the designs at the rate of ₹ 0.35per 𝑐𝑚2 . [𝑢𝑠𝑒 3 = 1.7].
12. In the given figure(5), ABC is a right-angled triangle, right-angled at A, in which 𝐴𝐵 = 6 𝑐𝑚, 𝐵𝐶 = 10 𝑐𝑚
and 𝐼 is the incentre of ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶. Find the area of the shaded region. [Take 𝜋 = 3.14]
13. From a thin metallic piece, in the shape of a trapezium ABCD, in which AB││CD and BCD  900 , a
quarter circle BFEC is removed (figure(6)). Given AB = BC = 3.5 cm and DE = 2 cm, calculate the area
of the remaining piece of the metal sheet.

14. In the given figure(7), ABCD is a trapezium in which 𝐴𝐵 ǁ 𝐷𝐶, 𝐴𝐵 = 18 𝑐𝑚, 𝐷𝐶 = 32 𝑐𝑚 and the distance
between 𝐴𝐵 and 𝐷𝐶 is 14 𝑐𝑚. If arcs of equal radii 7 cm have been drawn with centres A, B, C and D
then find the area of the shaded region.

16. Three horses are tethered with 7-metre-long ropes at the three corners of a triangular field having sides
20 m, 34 m and 42 m(fig 9). Find the area of the plot which can be grazed by the horses. Also, find the
area of the plot which remains ungrazed.
17. In the given figure(10), OABC is a quadrant of a circle with centre O and radius3.5 cm. If OD = 2 cm, find
the area of the shaded region
18. In the given figure(11), ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶 is a right-angled triangle with ∠𝐵 = 90°, 𝐴𝐵 = 48 𝑐𝑚 and 𝐵𝐶 = 14 𝑐𝑚.
With AC as diameter a semicircle is drawn and withBC as radius, a quadrant of a circle is drawn. Find

19. A horse is placed for grazing inside a rectangular field 70 m by 52 m. It is tethered to one corner by a
rope 21 m long. On how much area can it graze? How much area is left ungrazed?
20. In the given figure(12), SABC is right angled at A. Semicircles aredrawn on AB, AC and BC as
diameters. It is given that 𝐴𝐵 = 3 𝑐𝑚and 𝐴𝐶 = 4 𝑐𝑚. Find the area of theshaded region.
21. In the given figure(13), two concentric circles with centre O, have radii 21 cm and 42 cm. If∠𝐴𝑂𝐵 = 60°.
Find the area of the shaded region.

22. PQRS is a diameter of a circle of radius 6 cm. The lengths PQ, QR and RS are equal. Semicircles are
drawn with PQ and QS as diameters, as shown in the given figure(14). If PS = 12 cm, find the perimeter
rand area of the shaded region.[Use 𝜋 = 3.14].
23. In the given figure(15), OABC is a square of side 7 cm. If COPB is a quadrant of a circle with centre C
find the area of the shaded region.
24. The height of a cone is 40 cm. a small cone is cut off at the top by a plane parallel to the base and its

25. A vessel is in the form of an inverted cone. Its height is 8 cm and the radius of its top, which is open, is 5
cm. It is filled with water up to the brim. 100 spherical lead balls are dropped in to the vessel. One-fourth
of the water flows out. Find the radius of the spherical ball.
26. A cone is cut by a plane parallel to the base and the upper portion is removed. If the curved surface of
the remainder is 15/16 of the curved surface of the whole cone, find the ratio of the line-segment into
which the cone’s altitude is divided by the plane.
27. 2 cubes each of volume 64 cm3 are joined end to end. Find the surface area of the resulting cuboid.

28. A cylindrical vessel with internal diameter 10 cm and height 10.5 cm is full of water. A solid cone of base
diameter 7 cm and height 6 cm is completely immersed in water. Find the volume of water (i)Displaced

out of the cylinder (ii) Left in the cylinder (Take   ).

29. Due to heavy floods in a state, thousands were rendered homeless. 50 schools collectively offered to the
state government to provide place and the canvas for 1500 tents to be fixed by the government and
decided to share the whole expenditure equally. The lower part of each tent is cylindrical of base radius
2.8m and height 3.5m with conical upper part of same base radius but the height 2.1m. If the canvas
used to make the tents costs Rs.120 per sq.m, find the amount shared by each school to setup the tents.
What value is generated by the above problem?
30. Mayank made a bird-bath for his garden in the shape of a cylinder with a hemispherical depression
at one end (see Fig.1). The height of the cylinder is 1.45 m and its radius is 30 cm. Find the total surface
area of the bird-bath.

31. A conical vessel of radius 6 cm and height 8 cm is completely filled with water. A sphere is lowered into
the water and its size is such that when it touches the sides, it is just immersed as shown in figure(2).
What fraction of water over flows?
32. A vessel is in the form of a hollow hemisphere mounted by a hollow cylinder. The diameter of the
hemisphere is 14 cm and the total height of the vessel is 13 cm. Find the inner surface area of the
vessel.
33. A tent is in the shape of a cylinder surmounted by a conical top. If the height and diameter of the
cylindrical part are 2.1 m and 4 m respectively, and the slant height of the top is 2.8 m, find the area of
the canvas used for making the tent. Also, find the cost of the canvas of the tent at the rate of Rs 500 per
m2. (Note that the base of the tent will not be covered with canvas.)
34. A vessel is in the form of an inverted cone. Its height is 8 cm and the radius of its top, which is
open, is 5 cm. It is filled with water up to the brim. When lead shots, each of which is a sphere of radius
0.5 cm are dropped into the vessel, one-fourth of the water flows out. Find the number of lead shots
dropped in the vessel.
35. Rachel, an engineering student, was asked to make a model shaped like a cylinder with two cones
attached at its two ends by using a thin aluminium sheet. The diameter of the model is 3 cm and its
length is 12 cm. If each cone has a height of 2 cm, find the volume of air contained in the model that
Rachel made. (Assume the outer and inner dimensions of the model to be nearly the same.)
36. A gulabjamun, contains sugar syrup up to about 30% of its volume. Find approximately how much syrup
would be found in 45 gulabjamuns, each shaped like a cylinder with two hemispherical ends with length
5 cm and diameter 2.8 cm.
37. The circumference of the base of a conical tent is 44m. If the height of the tent is 24cm, find the length of
the canvas used in making the tent, if the width of the canvas is 2m. [ Use   22 7 ].

38. A spherical glass vessel has a cylindrical neck 8cm long, 2cm in diameter, the diameter of the spherical
part is 8.5cm. By measuring the amount of water it holds, a child finds its volume to be 345cm 3. Check
whether she is correct, taking the above as the inside measurement, and take 𝜋 = 3.14.

39. A sphere of maximum volume is cut out from a solid hemisphere of radius 7cm. What is the ratio of the
volume of the hemisphere to that of the cut out sphere?

40. The circumference of the base of a 9m high wooden solid cone is 44m. Find the volume of the cone.
41. A circus tent is in the shape of a cylinder surmounted by a conical top of the same diameter. If their
common diameter is 56m, the height of the cylindrical part is 6m and total height of the tent above the
ground is 27m, find the area of the canvas used in making the tent.
42. A conical tent is to accommodate 11 persons. Each person must have 4m2 of space on the ground and
20m3 of air to breath. Find the height of the cone.
43. The areas of three adjacent faces of a rectangular block are in the ratio of 2:3:4 and its volume is
9000cm3, find the length of the shortest side.
44. A heap of wheat is in the form of a cone of diameter 9m and height 3.5m. Find its volume. How much
canvas cloth is required to just cover the heap?
45. The difference between the outer and inner curved surface areas of a hollow right circular cylinder, 14cm
long, is 88cm2. If the volume of metal used in making the cylinder is 176cm3, find the outer and inner
diameters of the cylinder.
46. A solid wooden toy is in the form of a hemisphere surmounted by a cone of same radius. The radius of

the hemisphere is 3.5cm and total wood used in the making of toy is 166 cm3. Find the height of the toy.

Also, find the cost of painting the hemispherical part of the toy at the rate of ₹10 per cm2.
47. In figure, from a cuboidal solid metallic block of dimensions 15𝑐𝑚 × 10𝑐𝑚 × 5𝑐𝑚 , a cylindrical hole of
diameter 7cm is drilled out. Find the surface area of the remaining block.

48. A rocket is in the form of a cylinder closed at the lower end with a cone of the same radius attached to
the top. The cylinder is of the radius 2.5m and height 21m and the cone has the slant height 8m.
Calculate the total surface area of the rocket.
49. An iron pillar has some part in the form of a right circular cylinder and remaining in the form of right
circular cone. The radius of the base of each cone and cylinder is 8cm. The cylindrical part is 240cm
high and conical part is 36cm high. Find the weight of the pillar, if one cubic cm of iron weighs 10g.

50. A factory manufactures 1,20,000 pencils daily. The pencils are cylindrical in shape, each of length 25cm
and circumference 1.5cm. Determine the cost of coloring the curved surfaces of the pencils
manufactured in one day at ₹0.05 per dm2.
51. A solid is hemispherical at the bottom and conical above. If the surface areas of the two parts are equal,
then find the ratio of the radius and the height of the conical part.
52. The area of the base of a cone is 770cm2 and the curved surface area is 814cm2. Find the volume of the
cone.
53. The curved surface area of the cylinder is 264m2 and its volume 924m3. Find the ratio of its height to its
diameter.
54. The radii of the circular bases of a right circular cylinder and a cone are in the ratio of 3:4 and their
heights are in the ratio 2:3. What is the ratio of their volumes?
55. Due to sudden floods, some welfare associations jointly requested to the government to get 100 tents
fixed immediately and offered to contribute 50% of the cost. If the lower part of each tent is of the form of
a cylinder of diameter 4.2m and height 4m with the conical upper part of same diameter but of height
2.8m, and the canvas to be used costs ₹100/m2, find the amount, the association will have to pay.
56. Find the probability that a leap year selected at random will contains 53 Sundays
57. A piggy bank contains hundred 50-p coins, fifty ₹ 1 coins, twenty ₹ 2 and ten ₹ 5 coins. If it is equally
likely that one of the coins will fall out when the bank is turned upside down, find the probability the coin
falling out will be (i) a 50-p coin, (ii) of value more than ₹ 1,(iii) of value less than ₹ 5 (iv) a ₹ 1 or ₹ 2 coin.
58. A game of chance consists of spinning an arrow which is equally likely to come to rest pointing to one of
the numbers 1, 2, 3, …, 12 as shown in the figure. What is the probability that it will point to(i) 6? (ii) an
even number?(iii) a prime number? (iv) a number which is a multiple of 5?

59. A bag contains 18 balls out of which x balls are red.


(i) If one ball is drawn at random from the bag, what is the probability that it is not red?

(ii)If two more red balls are put in the bag, the probability of drawing a red ball will be 8times the
probability of drawing a red ball in the first case. Find the value of x.
60. A game of chance consists of spinning an arrow, which comes to rest pointing at one of the numbers 1,
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and these are equally likely outcomes. Find the probability that the arrow will point at
any factor of 8.
61. A number 𝑥 is selected at random from the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4. Another number y is selected at
random from the numbers 1, 4, 9 and 16. Find the probability that the product of x and y is less than
16.
62. Two dice are thrown at the same time. What is the probability that the sum of the two numbers
appearing on the top of the dice is (i) 7? (ii) 14? (iii) equal to 12?
63. Two dice are thrown at the same time. Find the probability of getting (i) same number on both
dice (ii) different numbers on both dice.
64. Cards marked with number 3, 4, 5, …, 50 are placed in a box and mixed thoroughly. A card is

drawn at random from the box. Find the probability that the selected card bears (i) a perfect
square number (ii) a single digit number
65. The probability of selecting a blue marble at random from a jar that contains only blue, black
and green marbles is 1/5. The probability of selecting a black marble at random from the same
jar is 1/4. If the jar contains 11 green marbles, find the total number of marbles in the jar.
66. Cards numbered 1 to 30 are put in a bag. A card is drawn at random from this bag. Find the
probability that the number on the drawn card is(i) not divisible by 3 (ii) a prime number greater
than 7 (iii) not a perfect square number.
67. From a pack of 52 playing cards, jacks, queens, kings and aces of red colour are removed.
From the remaining a card is drawn at random. Find the probability that the card drawn is (i) a
black queen (ii) a red card (iii) a face card.
68. Two dice are thrown at the same time. What is the probability that the sum of the two numbers
appearing on the top of the dice is
(i) at least 9? (ii) 7? (iii) less than or equal to 6?
69. All the black face cards are removed from a pack of 52 playing cards. The reaming cards are
well shuffled and then a card is drawn at random. Find the probability of getting (i) face card (ii)
red card (iii) black card.
70. One card is drawn at random from a well-shuffled deck of 52 playing cards. Find the probability
that the card drawn is (i) either a red card or a king, (ii) neither a red card nor a queen.
71. Two unbiased coins are tossed simultaneously. Find the probability of getting
(i) two heads (ii) one head (iii) at most one head (iv) at least one head (v ) no head
72. Two dice are thrown simultaneously. Find the probability of getting
(i) an even number as the sum (ii) the sum as a prime number (iii) a total of at least 10 (iv) a

74. 12 defective pens are accidentally mixed with 132 good ones. It is not possible to just look at a pen and
tell whether or not it is defective. One pen is taken out at random from this lot. Determine the probability
that the pen taken out is a good one.
