An AXA bus starts from rest at Ntcheu bus station and moves with a constant
acceleration of 𝑦 𝑚/𝑠 2 for 10seconds, it travels with a constant velocity for a
further 10 seconds and then uniformly decelerates at a rate of 2𝑦 𝑚/𝑠 2 to come to
rest 300m away from the starting point.

9. a. A group of 𝝎 students at Kings Foundation private went to a restaurant for
lunch and incurred a bill of K28, 800. When the bill was brought, Euler who was
one of the students confessed that he had no money on him. As a result those
present had to pay an extra K400. Formulate an equation in 𝝎 and hence find the
number of students.

9. b (i)
The Cost (C) of catering per head is partly constant and partly varies inversly as the
number of people fed. If the Cost per head for 200 people is K35 and the cost per head
for 40 people is K30. Find the cost per head for 50 people. (7marks)
