2c(ii). Crush one or two of specimen D with the aid of the blade /flat portion of the scapel / knife
on the filter paper provided. Observe the stain on the paper by holding the paper up to the
daylight. Record your observation.

 Saprophytic/feeds on dead organic matter


 Digests food externally by extracellular digestion and absorb soluble products through the
hyphae

 Possession brightly coloured parts e.g. corolla, bracts
 The pollen grains are often rough and stick to the insect’s body easily.
 They are often scented
 Possession broad or rounded sticky stigmas for the visit of particular kinds of insects
 The flowers have structural modifications suited for the visit of particular kinds of
insects.
 They contain nectar, sugary liquid which serves as food for many insect pollinators.
 Possession of nectar guides i.e. special petal leading the insects to the position of the
