What’s New
Activity 1.2 Model

If I were to compare my house to my family members, my father would be the wall that gives our
family with a sense of protection, security, and privacy. He creates an environment that is
exclusively ours. My mother would be the roof that provides comfort in the presence of inclement
weather, shielding our home from high winds, keeping us dry while it's raining outside, or offering
much-needed shade on a scorching hot summer day. My sister, as the window, offers "life" to our
dwellings by allowing fresh air to circulate through natural ventilation. Finally, I'd be the door that
assists my father in protecting our family from malicious intentions.

Activity 1.3 My Family Song

Title of the song “Dance With My Father” by Luther Vandross

Lyrics of the song Back when I was a child
Before life removed all the innocence
My father would lift me high
And dance with my mother and me and then
Spin me around till I fell asleep
Then up the stairs he would carry me
And I knew for sure I was loved

If I could get another chance

Another walk, another dance with him
I'd play a song that would never ever end
How I'd love, love, love to dance with my father again, ooh

When I and my mother would disagree

To get my way I would run from her to him
He'd make me laugh just to comfort me, yeah, yeah
Then finally make me do just what my momma said
Later that night when I was asleep
He left a dollar under my sheet
Never dreamed that he would be gone from me
If I could steal one final glance, one final step
One final dance with him
I'd play a song that would never ever end
'Cause I'd love, love, love to dance with my father again
Sometimes I'd listen outside her door
And I'd hear how my mother cried for him
I pray for her even more than me
I pray for her even more than me
I know I'm praying for much too much
But could you send back the only man she loved?
I know you don't do it usually
But dear Lord she's dying to dance with my father again
Every night I fall asleep and this is all I ever dream

Interpretation The song is about happy childhood memories of growing up with their father
and how he wishes he could relive those happy moments once again. The
song’s lyrics mention a number of some of these happy moments he had with
his father and mother. The most memorable of these memories were the times
when his father would carry him high and dance with him and his mother—a
memory that inspired the song’s title.

What I Can Do

I come from a nuclear family, consisting of my married parents, me being the eldest, and my
one and only younger sister. We are a Filipino family recognized for our strong and deep family
bonds. We are a happy and loving family. Our parents normally cook for us as a means of showing
their love. In addition, we always find a way to smile and be happy, even in the midst of adversity.
Whatever the issue, we are constantly reminded that our family is always there to love and support
us.

Some of the social legacies that my parents instilled in us include being respectful and
responsible, which allows me to relate to others and cultivate healthy and stable relationships. My
parents' emotional legacy include the significance of having a safe environment and being confident.
This gives the sustenance and support our frail spirit requires for healthy emotional growth. Our
parents' spiritual legacy taught us to apply biblical principles into our daily lives and to see God as
a personable, loving being who ought to be loved and revered.
