Based on our data from the needs assessment, only 35% of faculty believe there is adequate school-wide support to address students social/emotional needs. The highest needs for students were emotional regulation (79%), communicating feelings and bullying/gossip (71%). Based on this, we hope to increase the support through targeted small groups that focus on emotional regulation and developing empathy.
School Counseling Program Goals
The school counseling program will focus on the following achievement, attendance and/or behavior goals this year. Details of activities promoting these goals are found in the curriculum, small-group and closing-the-gap action plans.
Program Goal Statements
1 Personal/Social: Based on our data from the needs assessment, only 35% of faculty believe there is adequate school-wide support to address students social/emotional needs. The highest needs for students were emotional regulation (79%), communicating feelings and bullying/gossip (71%). Based on this, we hope to increase the support through targeted small groups that focus on emotional regulation and developing empathy. 2 Academic: Teachers report that 43% of students require additional academic support they are not currently receiving and 57% of teachers said they neither agree nor disagree that their students have strong test-taking skills. Based on this data, we will develop a unit of classroom lessons that include calculating GPA, test-taking skills, etc. resulting in increased achievement test scores. We will also provide tutoring services for students by adult volunteers and peers.
3 College/Career: Teachers report that students plan to go to college but not all understand what it will take to get there. Our goal is to increase the college-going culture at STA as well as implement classroom lessons that aim to educate students on college/career readiness and introduce them to options. Use of Time I plan to spend the following percentage of my time delivering the components of the school counseling program. All components are required for a comprehensive school counseling program.
