About this audiobook
USA Today bestselling series.
India Steele is desperate. Her father is dead, her fiancé took her inheritance, and no one will employ her, despite years working for her watchmaker father. Indeed, the other London watchmakers seem frightened of her. Alone, poor, and at the end of her tether, India takes employment with the only person who'll accept her - an enigmatic and mysterious man from America. A man who possesses a strange watch that rejuvenates him when he's ill.
Matthew Glass must find a particular watchmaker, but he won't tell India why any old one won't do. Nor will he tell her what he does back home, and how he can afford to stay in a house in one of London's best streets. So when she reads about an American outlaw known as the Dark Rider arriving in England, she suspects Mr. Glass is the fugitive. When danger comes to their door, she's certain of it. But if she notifies the authorities, she'll find herself unemployed and homeless again - and she will have betrayed the man who saved her life.
With a cast of quirky characters, an intriguing mystery, and a dash of romance, THE WATCHMAKER'S DAUGHTER is the start of a thrilling new historical fantasy series from the author of the bestselling Ministry of Curiosities, Freak House, and Emily Chambers Spirit Medium books.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Apr 19, 2024 I liked the book, although it was very slow burning. It’s a quick book, but just dragged on a little bit.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Apr 19, 2024 Refreshing with a twist and very relatable heroine. Definitely enjoyed listening to this book.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Dec 12, 2024 Really loved this book. One of the best I've read in awhile -- characters, plot, rollicking language and more. So much steampunk literature feels "affected" but this comes off so naturally. Love it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Oct 14, 2024 Loved it, suits my tastes. And a whole series to listen too. ?
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Aug 11, 2024 Love the old fashion story of love and honor, mixed with a good old murder mystery with a twist of paranormal.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Jul 26, 2024 Captivating story! The author did a great job of weaving together the mysteries of the story and the slow reveal of magic. The various developing relationships were great! I loved India’s personality: in turns impertinent, headstrong, capable, clever, naive, and innocent. All of the main characters were just so complex and entertaining. This kept my attention! A great story!
The narrator was also excellent. She did a great job with the different voices and the pacing was great. She has a very good voice to listen to… one that is free from being too breathy and no slowness/trailing/lisping. Very enjoyable!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5May 8, 2024 Best book that I have read in months. Truly loved all the characters.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Apr 19, 2024 Must must listen it’s awesome! Definitely read the whole collection
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Apr 19, 2024 Yeah, I don't know if I would have invested my time if I had known how drawn out this book would be.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Apr 19, 2024 Such an excellent book I enjoyed the characters, the mystery of Mr. glass, and the wonderful ending I can say this is the best book I've read this year. This author is exquisite and telling a story, such a great storyteller I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Apr 19, 2024 Loved this series of books! Happened upon this by accident after reading another book by the author and instantly hooked! Had to read the entire series to find out what happened to Matt & India.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Apr 19, 2024 Captivating writing, and great narration. I devoured this, and laughed out loud several times. More substantive than "fluff," but enjoyable in a similar way.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Apr 19, 2024 The fact that I listened to this book in a single day has to speak volumes as to how much I enjoyed it. The story starts right from the beginning of the book. No boring build up and is exciting and well written throughout. Filled with good characters and an interesting plot. The narration is good too
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Apr 19, 2024 I tossed up on giving the book three or four stars. It is a great story but it could have been a little more exciting.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Apr 19, 2024 Well written. Mystery, intrigue, great characters. Unobsessive erotism, deep and graceful.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Apr 19, 2024 I enjoyed listening to this book - it was relaxing and the narration was excellent!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Apr 19, 2024 It was written well but my biggest issue is that absolutely nothing happens and for a book that's all about people talking, we know almost nothing about the main characters. It feels like a very long introduction chapter to a series, rather than a book.
If I didn't want to spoil you, I'd say this book is equivalent to the first book of Harry Potter ending with Hagrid telling Harry he's a wizard. And the contents up until that moment take up an entire book with the information we learn and plot progression being the same.
But I have to add a star for the narrator who was really lovely to listen to.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Apr 19, 2024 Probably a good book as I enjoyed the first one of the series. A pity that the narrator changed. I couldn’t listen to it.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Apr 19, 2024 Overall it was a pretty decent listen. Most of the revelations packed tightly together toward the end, and the conclusion felt a little rushed.
 But nevertheless I was entertained.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Apr 19, 2024 Excellent adventure. Riveting plot. Glass and Steel takes you on thrilling ride, part mystery and a smidge of romance.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Apr 19, 2024 This is a very interesting book with some likeable, and some scary characters . The culmination makes for a Great read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Apr 19, 2024 I loved this it was so easy to picture in my mind, I couldn’t stop listening, wonderful author!!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Jul 15, 2024 3.5 stars. Cheesy and predictable but still a fun escape into make believe. I don’t love the narrator, some of the voices she does are over the top and play on stereotypes. Her portrayal of Mr Glass in particular made me think of him as old and bitter at first, not young, hansom and mysterious.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Apr 19, 2024 An enjoyably predictable story that was easy to listen to. A few questionable phrases used, such as "not right in the head" in describing the woman with dementia. And sexist and offensive gender conforming language to describe Willie, the female character who dresses like a man. These are minor things however, and overall found it interesting enough to get to the end. The writing isn't superb, lots of adjectives! Which can be good to set the scene but it can also feel clunky.2 people found this helpful
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Apr 19, 2024 I felt like this book could have been better but it just fell short. Very little depth to the characters but the narrator was awesome!2 people found this helpful

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Apr 19, 2024 I really do enjoy C. J. Archer's books.
The story was unique and the narrator's voice was lovely and well suited. I'm a little sad that the 2nd book is narrated by a different person.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Apr 19, 2024 This was a fun and easy "read". I loved having access to the book and audiobook. There were great twists and chapter cliffhangers that kept me wanting to go to the next chapter. I can't wait to read the next one!1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Apr 19, 2024 Thoroughly enjoyed this book more as a thriller/historical fiction versus a fantasy book. I wish that part had been a bit more robust. Well worth the listen though and looking forward to listening to part 2...
