About this audiobook

Master storyteller Stephen King presents the classic, terrifying #1 New York Times bestseller about a terrifying otherworldly discovery and the effects it has a on a small town.

“Late last night and the night before, Tommyknockers, Tommyknockers, knocking at the door…”

On a beautiful June day, while walking deep in the woods on her property in Haven, Maine, Bobbi Anderson quite literally stumbles over her own destiny and that of the entire town. For the dull gray metal protrusion she discovers in the ground is part of a mysterious and massive metal object, one that may have been buried there for millennia. Bobbi can’t help but become obsessed and try to dig it out…the consequences of which will affect and transmute every citizen of Haven, young and old. It means unleashing extraordinary powers beyond those of mere mortals—and certain death for any and all outsiders. An alien hell has now invaded this small New England town…an aggressive and violent malignancy devoid of any mercy or sanity…

While some reviewers enjoyed the book and found it to be a great read with excellent narration, others felt that it was not Stephen King's best work and could have been shorter. The writing in this book is some of his absolute best, but I am not a fan of the major plot point in any story, so I disliked finding out what was actually going on. It's still a great tale, and worth the read. Some of those scenes will just stay with you!

Excellent narration! This book is often considered to be a lesser entry in Kings oeuvre (including by King himself) but I enjoyed it thoroughly, derivative as the plot may be. I loved the characters, and the unfolding mystery. Anyone hankering for small town horror as only he writes it should look no further.
I do think the thing would have been better for some editing. Maybe 50-100 pages drag, which in a book this long adds up to a slight detour, and the remainder, as Kipling says is worth the effort.

If this book was half as long, it would be great. The final act of the book would benefit from focusing less on killer Coca-Cola machines and more on the ancient alien spaceship we've been uncovering for 400 pages.

Loved this book! Great narrator and a new twist on aliens. This was my first SK book and still my favorite. As with all SK books, he has alot of build up but hang in there because it's worth it. This book is a slow burner.

It was pretty good. Very long—possibly longer than it should be. Took me more than six years to get through, but the audiobook helped. The ending was decently worth it.

I read this book in 1989 when a friend lent it to me. This was my very first Stephen King experience and I was hooked and wanted more. Listening to the audio now, has brought back memories and joy. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Weird, but good. I thought for most of the book that King had a misunderstanding of what a Tommyknocker was, but that is explained eventually. Gardener was a strange protagonist and there were really not that many characters that you could sympathize with. All you really know about Gard is that he got drunk and shot his wife at first. Overall there are some really cool concepts and I suspect that Killer Clowns From Outer Space might have taken some inspiration from this.

It's appealing how the story was built. I haven't read much about this extraterrestrial genre and still, I felt it was different, the way this entity was invading all the inhabitants of the city of Haven, what it made them do and how it was changing the environment, until it reached the point of isolating the city, where they couldn't go in or out because it affected them so much that they could die. A King novel that deals with themes more typical of science fiction than horror, but where we can find very typical and characteristic elements of his style. Entertaining although at times it becomes a bit long and repetitive. Recommended if you like the author and the theme of UFOs. (Translated from Spanish)

A book I had low expectations for, as I had read very mixed reviews, but I found it very pleasant to read. I had read that it was slow, but it seems to me that this slowness is necessary at the beginning for the story to take shape. Like in Salem's Lot or The Dome, the protagonist is an entire town, Haven in this instance. A story about aliens that, once it captures you, you can't stop. I loved it. (Translated from Spanish)

    "Ufffff..."
It constantly came to my mind when I read page after page without any kind of emotion.
    Ufffff... Finally, I finished it.

A very mediocre story, in my opinion, filled with fluff from the author, very boring. Even though at one point it seems like it's going to pick up, it then falls again until it loses almost all interest. For me, it's not a recommended read.

Anyway, what a pity. (Translated from Spanish)
