- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Aug 30, 2023 Not my favourite Lisa Jewell book. Overall I found it a bit depressing, and stretched out.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Aug 30, 2023 You know how you watch a movie and see characters making unwise decisions, while watching you have to yell at the screen. How very bad decisions can take the better part of one life because you did not take time to see life will for each other. "No, don't go in there!" and "Don't trust that person!" but they don't listen to you and it doesn't work out well for them in the end? That's what reading Vince and Joy was like for me, except I was yelling "Don't throw away Joy's number, call her!" and "Leave the loser you're with and go find the love of your life: Vince," but they didn't listen to me either. And many years of Vince's and Joy's lives were wasted over misunderstandings and settling for second best when these two know fate has destined them to be together from the moment the teenage Vince got his first glimpse of a teenage Joy sunning herself near his caravan during summer vacation.
Like with so many of Lisa Jewell's books, I get so caught up in the way that she slowly unfolds her story that it's just about impossible to put down. Jewell really knows how to add interesting side characters to the story she's telling; you may love or hate the characters, and they may have small or big parts, but they are fully fleshed out and are as crucial to the story as the main characters. In Vince and Joy, I absolutely love Julia and Bella, and Cass and her cat.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Aug 30, 2023 I enjoy most of Lisa Jewel’s books; some are so-so, and some are fantastic. This one is one of my favorites of hers. Vince’s and Joy’s utter obtuseness at times was both tedious and eye rolling, to the extent that it made me stop liking or caring about their characters sometimes , so I took a star off for that. Otherwise, a story well told and a nice, magical read that reminds me a bit of the spark that my husband’s and my unusual love story has.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Aug 30, 2023 A beautiful book about destiny and love. A winding story that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Aug 30, 2023 I like this book but found it super frustrating hearing these characters constantly missing out on so much potential for love. Ugh and then it ended.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Aug 30, 2023 Lisa Jewell is a good storyteller but I’m getting tired of the way she seems to always categorize her protagonists into the “beautiful people” category while making annoying or anti-hero characters ugly and/or fat. I was excited to read this but was wildly disappointed by the lack of depth to the characters especially Vince.1 person found this helpful
