“Selefiliğin Yakın Tarihinden Önemli Bir Yaprak: Yeni Bilgiler Işığında Cuheymân el-Uteybî ve Cemaati”, Marife, 9/3 (2009), s.21-46.

Selefi cemaat lideri ve eylem adamı Cuheymân el-Uteybî’nin 15. hicrî asrın ilk günlerine rastlayan 1979 Kasım ayındaki Mescid-i Haram işgali, geçen yüzyılda müslümanları ilgilendiren en önemli olaylardan birisidir. Bu olay ve arka planı daha önce Türkçede tarafımca yapılan iki ayrı araştırmanın konusu olmuş; biri akademik usûl ve üsluba uygun olarak, diğeri de popüler gayelerle serbest bir dil ile hazırlanıp yazılan ve 2004 ile 2005 yıllarında yayımlanan bu çalışmalarda konu derinlemesine değerlendirilmiştir.
Fakat özellikle 2007 yılında çıkan iki yeni çalışma, Cuheymân hadisesinin tekrar ele alınması zaruretini doğurmuştur. Bu zaruretin nedeni, bu yeni yayınlara kaynaklık eden tanıklıkların, özellikle Nâsır el-Huzeymî’nin verdiği malumatın, olayın daha iyi anlaşılması açısından taşıdıkları ehemmiyettir. Tekrar vurgulanması ya da tashih ve tasrih edilmesi gereken bazı detayların ve yeni aydınlanan bazı karanlık noktaların
ilim dünyası ve konunun diğer meraklıları ile paylaşılması bu nedenle akademik bir mecburiyet haline gelmiştir.

Başlangıçta Arabistan içerisinde yayılan hareketin daha sonraları dünyanın değişik bölgelerinde önemli ölçüde taraftarlarının oluştuğu dikkati çeker. 18. ve 19. yüzyılda Avrupa devletlerinin Afrika ve Hindistan Alt Kıtasına ilgi duymaları ve burayı işgal etmeleri üzerine bu bölgelerdeki Müslümanlar arasında farklı hareketlerin ortaya çıktığı görülmektedir. Müslümanlar, içerisinde bulundukları siyasî, sosyal ve dinî krizlerden çıkmak için bazı yöntemler geliştirmek için çabalamışlardır. Bunun neticesinde farklı hareket ve dinî akımlar ortaya çıkmıştır.  Sonraki dönemde mevcut olan bu akım ve hareketlerin bazılarıyla Vehhâbilik arasında irtibat kurulmuştur. Vehhâbiliğin, Suûdi Arabistan’ın dışında Afrika, Orta Asya ve diğer bölgelerde ortaya çıkan bir kısım dinî oluşum ve hareketleri de etkilediği iddia edilmektedir. Bu bağlamda Vehhâbilikle benzer görüşlere sahip bu hareket ve akımların Vehhâbilikten etkilenip etkilenmedikleri, etkilenme var ise ne ölçüde etkilendikleri iddiası tebliğimizin konusudur. Bu tebliğde değişik coğrafyalarda ortaya çıkan ve Vehhâbilikle irtibatlandırılan İslâmi akım ve hareketlerde Vehhâbî etkisinin olup olmadığı, varsa etkilenmenin niteliği ve niceliği üzerinde durulacaktır. Ancak konunun hacmi nedeniyle bu hareketlerden belli başlı olanları üzerinde durulacak 20. yüzyılın son yarısı ile günümüz hareketleri ele alınmayacaktır.

Suudi Arabistan’ın 1970’li yıllarda dünyaya açılması ve özelde Ortadoğu’nun genelde ise yer kürenin önemli ekonomik ve siyasi güçlerinden birisi haline gelmesiyle beraber, o zamana kadar İslam aleminde kapalı ve dar muhitlerde faaliyet yürütmüş olan Selefiler, gelişen iletişim vasıtalarının ve geniş ekonomik imkanların da yardımıyla İslam düşüncesi ve siyasetinde ağırlığı olan bir pozisyona gelmeyi başarmışlardır.
Bu durum aynı zamanda kendileri gibi gelenekçi olmakla beraber “hadis” merkezli değil de fıkıh/medrese yahut tasavvuf/tekke odaklı yapılanan hareketler ile, ya da kültürel ve siyasal faaliyetler yürüten modern çehreli İslamî hareketler ile Selefiliğin yoğun etkileşime girmesini de sağlamıştır. Bilhassa Suudi tandanslı Selefilik bir taraftan bu hareketleri küresel çapta etkilemekte, diğer taraftan ise kendisi yer yer etkilenmekte, bu etkilenmeyle Selefilik kendi içinde farklılaşmakta, bu farklılıklar 1990’lı yıllarla birlikte derinleşmeye başlamakta, hem ideolojik hem de örgütsel bakımdan kendi bünyesinde zıtlaşan ama malum geleneksel inanç ve pratiklerin çoğu noktasında uzlaşan “Selefiyyeler”in oluşumunu temin etmektedir.
Bu çalışmamız söz konusu etkileşimin ve “Selefiyyeler” gerçeğinin mahiyetini bir bildiri çerçevesinde ana hatlarıyla ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır.

Selefîlik-Vehhabîlik, toplumu bid’atlerden temizlemek, sahih İslam’ı tekrar
ihya etmek amacıyla Dir’iyye’de, Muhammed b. Abdülvehhab ve Muhammed b.
Suud arasında 1744 yılında yapılan anlaşma neticesinde ortaya çıkmıştır. Muhammed
b. Abdüvehhab’ın dinî konulardaki bid’at, cihad, iyiliği emretme gibi fikirleri,
Necd bölgesinde yeni kurulan bu siyasî yapının faaliyetlerinin dayanak noktası haline
gelmiştir. Osmanlı Devleti, I. Dünya Savaşı’ndan yenik ayrılması sonucu Hicaz
bölgesinden çekilmek zorunda kalmış ve Arap Yarımadası, Vehhabîler’in kontrolü
altına girmiştir. Bu tarihten itibaren Türkiye’de Selefî-Vehhabî doktrinlerin bir kısım
etkisi görülse de davetçi Abdullah Yolcu’nun, 1986’da Türkiye’ye gelişine kadar
Vehhabîlerin herhangi bir faaliyetinden bahsetmek mümkün değildir. Abdullah Yolcu
Türkiye’deki faaliyetlerine 1992 yılında kurduğu Guraba Yayınevi’nde Vehhabî
âlimlerinin eserlerini tercüme etmekle başlamıştır. 1992 yılından günümüze kadar
Türkiye’de Vehhabî davetçilerin sayısı her geçen gün artmıştır. Bu davetçiler Türkiye
genelinde yayınevleri, dernekler, Kur’an kursları ve medreseler açarak buralarda
yaptıkları ders ve sohbetlerde Selefî-Vehhabî akidesini öğretmektedirler.

İnsanlar, çoğunlukla toplum halinde yaşamayı tercih ettiklerinden dolayı devamlı birbirleriyle ilişki halindedirler. Bu toplumsal yapı içerisinde insanın benimsediği davranışlar, ahlakı meydana getirmektedir. Teolojik açıdan düşünülecek olursa dinler de insanlara birtakım ahlaki fonksiyonlar tanımlamaktadır. İslam dini de insanın ahlaklı bir yaşam sürmesini istemektedir. Ancak günümüzdeki Müslüman ülke ve toplumların ahlak konusundaki durumuna bakıldığında toplumda ahlakın hayati bir rolünün olup olmadığı şüphelidir. Bu yüzden İslami bir ahlak teorisinin mümkün olup olmadığı sorusu akla gelmektedir. Bu soruya verilecek cevap, İslam‘ı yorumlama metoduna göre değişiklik göstermektedir.
Bu çalışma, İslami bir ahlak teorisinin mümkün olup olmadığı sorusuna odaklanmaktadır. İslami modernizm geleneğinin İslam‘ı yorumlama yöntemi ahlak temelli olduğundan modernist geleneğin ahlak felsefesi ele alınarak sorunun cevabı araştırılmıştır. Birinci bölümde, İslami bir ahlak teorisi çizmeden önce İslam‘ı yorumlama metodumuzun bu teoriyi etkilediğini göstermek için radikal ve modernist geleneğin İslam‘a bakışlarına değinilmiştir. Bunlarla birlikte modernitenin ortaya çıkması sonucu ihya ve reform hareketlerinin iki gelenek üzerindeki etkisi de ele alınmıştır. İkinci bölümde, ahlak kavramına odaklanılmış ve ahlakın Batı, Doğu ve Uzak Doğu toplumlarındaki tarihsel serüveni ele alınmıştır. Böylece ahlak kavramının geçmişte nasıl ele alındığı ve günümüzde nasıl ele alınabileceği gösterilmek istenmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde, İslami modernizm geleneğinin ahlak felsefesi incelenmiştir ve araştırma sorusuna yanıt aranmıştır. Ayrıca bu bölümde çalışma bir adım daha derinleştirilerek modernist geleneğin çizmiş olduğu ahlak felsefesi ile doğal hukuk arasındaki ilişki irdelenmiştir. Sonuç olarak, İslami bir ahlak teorisinin mümkün olduğu ve modernist geleneğin ahlak felsefesinin buna bir örnek oluşturduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Buna ek olarak modernist geleneğin ahlak felsefesinin bir doğal hukuk teorisi olduğu ileri sürülmüştür.

الإفريقي، كما أظهر من جديد خريطة الاصطفافات والتحالفات الاستراتيجية التي يستقوي بها المغرب
ماديا ومعنويا في سياسته الجديدة تجاه القارة الإفريقية وفي كل ما له صلة بالملفات الحيوية الأخرى
بالنسبة له. فمن المعلوم أن انسحاب المغرب من القمة المذكورة صاحبه انسحاب مجموعة من الدول
العربية التي تنتمي إلى "النادي الملكي" الخليجي ومن يدور في فلكه وعلى رأسه المملكة العربية
السعودية.

Con  la  proclamazione  del  cosiddetto  Califfato  di  Abu  Bakr  al-Baghdadi  il  29 giugno  2014  è  tornato  in  auge  un  tema  dal  forte  impatto  propagandistico  per l’ecumene  islamica  che  sembrava  essere  stato  accantonato  dopo  il  collasso dell’Impero  ottomano.  Questo  contributo  illustra  le  radici  del  Califfato  storico prima  arabo  poi  ottomano  mettendo  in  risalto  le  contraddizioni  insiste  nelle pretese di Daesh rispetto alla stessa dottrina islamica sunnita relativa al titolo e alla funzione di Califfo.

Cet article tente de comprendre le wahhabisme et de suivre son évolution historique. En quoi Ibn 'Abd al Wahhab a-t-il rompu avec la tradition islamique ? Quelles sont les racines doctrinales du "jihadisme" ? Banyak orang salah dalam menilai Ibnu Taimiyah. Sebagian bahkan menganggapnya sebagai sosok yang mengilhami pemikiran-pemikiran kelompok teroris. Alasannya, banyak pendapat-pendapat Ibnu Taimiyah yang dikutip oleh tokoh-tokoh teroris atau banyak karya Ibnu Taimiyah yang dikaji oleh kelompok-kelompok teroris itu. Padahal tidak seperti yang mereka bayangkan. Ibnu Taimiyah, jika kita telisik karya-karya tulisnya, adalah sosok ulama yang paling sering menyerang pemikiran-pemikiran kelompok Khawarij, Syiah, dan kelompok-kelompok yang menyempal dan menyimpang dari Islam. Ibnu Taimiyah membantah pendapat-pendapat keliru kelompok-kelompok tersebut dengan dasar yang kuat. Argumen-argumen Ibnu Taimiyah dibangun di atas penarikan kesimpulan yang tepat dari Al Qur-an dan As Sunnah. Bukan semata-mata pandangan biasa, apalagi membabi buta dalam mempertahankan keyakinan. Sayangnya, ada sebagian pihak dari kaum muslimin yang tidak memerhatikan itu. Mereka lebih memilih gambaran yang telah dibentuk oleh media, opini tokoh-tokoh yang tidak menyukai Ibnu Taimiyah, dan asumsi-asumsi keliru dari sebagian kelompok masyarakat tentang pandangan -pandangan Ibnu Taimiyah.

Berikut ini di antara contoh karya tulis Ibnu Taimiyah tentang masalah kesabaran. Di dalamnya, dijelaskan bagaimana sikap seorang muslim ketika menghadapi kezaliman dari orang lain dan bagaimana sikap sabar yang benar dalam menghadapi semua itu.

This article provides a short overview of thoughts of the medieval muslim theologian Ibn Taymiyya, it offers the history of appeal to his ideas and the reasons why they are in demand. To a great extent the teaching of Ibn Taymiyyah became widely known through his influence on the formation of the Wahhabi movement. The demand for Ibn Taymiyyah’s thoughts in Modern and Contemporary History allows to draw a conclusion about timelessness of the issues he considered and the enhancement of the value of religion in the transition periods
in the history of Muslim society.

الطبيعة لا تقفز. هذه الحكمة المستخدمة من قبل الفلاسفة والعلماء منذ العصور القديمة تُعبّر عن الفكرة القائلة بأنّ كلّ تغيّر هو نتيجة مراحل متعاقبة وليس نتيجة تحوّل مفاجئ في الزمان والمكان.

فقد سمحت لنا دراسته في إطار تحقيب تاريخي طويل أن نُظهر المتغيّرات التاريخيّة والإجتماعيّة والسياسيّة التي أجبرت القيمين عليه أي العلماء على تكييف مدوّنتهم الفكرية وهياكلهم المؤسساتية بغرض الحفاظ على مركزية خطابهم الديني في المجال الإجتماعي السعودي وإشعاعه في مختلف أرجاء العالم وتكريس هيمنة العائلة الحاكمة على المعترك السياسي.

فالتحالف بين المرجعية الدينية والسلطة السياسية في المملكة العربية السعودية جعل المذهب الحنبلي الوهّابي أرثوذكسية الإسلام الجديدة والمستأمنين عليه علماء الإسلام الجدد.

Pendant la guerre froide, l'Arabie Saoudite a utilisé ses pétrodollars pour propager le wahhabisme. Après le 11 septembre 2001, la diplomatie religieuse saoudienne a néanmoins connu une inflexion, dénonçant les excès des djihadistes et prônant l'« islam du juste milieu ». Cette nouvelle posture est renforcée depuis l'arrivée de Muhammad Ibn Abd Al-Karim Al-Isa à la tête de la Ligue islamique mondiale. On peut toutefois s'inter-roger sur la sincérité et l'effectivité de ce revirement.

, a rehabilitated former senior member of the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) terror network, Wan Min Wan Mat, delivered a lecture to a group of Malaysian counter-terrorism practitioners in which he sketched out the ideological rationale and aims of the JI network, unpacked in some detail its recruitment and indoctrination philosophy and methodology and also examined what in his personal view are potentially useful strategies for rehabilitating JI militants or preventing the further dissemination of JI extremist ideas. This article examines and evaluates some of the key insights made by Wan Min in his lecture, and argues that his musings are more than mere historical interest in that they have direct relevance to the current struggle against the latest incarnation of the continually evolving violent jihadist threat in Southeast Asia and globally, namely the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS or IS). The central reason for this is that the same broad ideology that animated JI — Salafi Jihadism — basically motivates ISIS as well. Hence, even allowing for dissimilarities in time and space, Wan Min's insights about JI could well provide useful pointers for counter-terrorism practitioners and specialists dealing with the ISIS threat today.

Si le mot est constamment évoqué, sa réalité historique est souvent mal connue. Il s'agit pourtant de sortir des lectures uniquement géopolitiques du salafisme, pour tenter de rendre la profondeur historique de ce mouvement.

ISIL or ISIS continues to burden the world with political strife and religious rhetoric. One of the main attractions to their ideology is their claim of being a "caliphate upon the prophetic model." This allows them latitude in justifying many of their punitive actions against the populaces of Iraq, Syria, and elsewhere while retaining their moniker of being a truly "Islamic" state. One tool for the legitimization of these acts is a text written in the modern period by Muḥammad ʿAbdul-Wahhāb (d.1791). This treatise titled " Mufīd al-Mustafīd fī Kufr Tārik al-Tawḥīd" was written against the people of Ḥuraymilāʾ  after they rejected his ideas and seceded from the budding Saudi state. This paper will cover four main topics related to this treatise: 1) A comparison of the IS print of this book to others printed outside IS lands. 2) A catalog and summary of the contents of this treatise, 3) reactions of Wahhabi scholars to it in their own writings, and 4) the genealogy of its legal and theological issues and their presence outside the Wahhabi tradition. In conclusion, the proximity of the ideas presented in this treatise to the broader Islamic legal and theological tradition will be determined.

A biography of Shaykh Ja'far M. Adam, the most outstanding figure of the Salafi/Wahhabi da'wa in Nigeria during the last two decades, who was tragically murdered in 2007 (with all likelihood, by order of his former student Muhammad Yusuf, founder of Boko Haram).

After conquering large swaths of Syria and Iraq, the IS undertook an aggressive sectarian campaign in which they not only enacted horrific violence against the Shia people, but also damaged or destroyed several key Shia mosques and shrines. Drawing on Social Movement Theory (SMT), this article analyzes the response by various Shia nonstate actors—militia leaders, religious clergymen, populist preachers, and seminal poets. It argues that they used the IS threat to Shia holy sites to develop and deploy a mobilization frame that has come to be referred to as the “shrine protection narrative.” The article also documents the manifold consequences of the shrine protection narrative: it underpinned a mass recruitment drive that saw tens of thousands enlist; it legitimized foreign Shia militias to enter the conflicts in both Syria and Iraq; it justified the formation of entirely new militias who declared the centrality of shrine protection to their mandate; and it mobilized them to enact political violence. In doing so, this article extends existing studies of SMT to demonstrate that “sacred spaces”—and particularly the need to protect religious sites from specific threats—can serve as a powerful mobilization frame towards political violence.

Dalam tulisan Irwan Amrizal ini, saya diwawancara terkait  kontroversi Tengku Wisnu dalam sebuah acara TV tahun 2015 yang lalu. Kontroversi muncul ketika program itu menampilkan paket informasi yang membicarakan tentang hukum mengirim Surah al-Fatihah bagi umat Islam yang sudah meninggal. Bagi umat Islam di Indonesia dan di sejumlah wilayah umat Islam lainnya, ritual ini lazim dilakukan dan tidak dipandang bermasalah. Masalahnya, isi paket informasi itu mempersoalkan ritual itu dan menganggapnya sebagai praktik yang tidak dilakukan Nabi Muhammad, alias bid’ah.

The form of Islam normatively understood and practised in Malaysia, i.e. Malaysian Islam, has undergone myriad changes since the 1970s as a result of gradual Salafization. Powered by Saudi Arabian largesse and buoyed by the advent of the Internet, this new wave of Salafization has eclipsed an earlier Salafi trend that spawned the Kaum Muda reformist movement. Recent surveys suggest that there has been a rise in the level of extremism among Muslims in Malaysia. While the majority is far from being enamoured by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the Wahhabi-Salafi doctrine that ISIS claims to represent in unadulterated form does appeal to many of them following the decades-long Salafization of Islam in the country. This tallies with media reports on increasing numbers of Malay-Muslim youth harbouring an attraction towards radical Islamist movements such as ISIS. Salafization, referring to a process of mindset and attitudinal transformation rather than the growth of Salafi nodes per se, is not restricted to individuals or groups identified as “Salafi”, but rather affects practically all levels of Malay-Muslim society, cutting across political parties, governmental institutions and non-state actors. It has resulted in Islamist, rather than Islamic, ideals increasingly defining the tenor of mainstream Islam in Malaysia, with worrying consequences for both intra-Muslim and inter-religious relations. Responses to the Wahhabi-Salafi onslaught from the Malay-Muslim ruling elite in Malaysia have been ambivalent, and have had weak counteracting effects on the Salafization process.

In contemporary academic literature, the word “Salafī” has a variety of meanings. Most importantly, Western academic literature of the 20th and 21st centuries applies the word to (1) an Islamic reform movement founded by Jamāl al-Dīn al-Afghānī (d. 1897) and Muḥammad ʿAbduh (1849–1905) in the last decades of the 19th century and (2) to contemporary Sunni reform movements that criticize manifestations of Sunni Islam which are based on Sufism, Ashʿarism, and traditional madhhab-affiliations to the Shāfiʿī, Ḥanafī, and Mālikī schools. In a 2010-article Henri Lauzière argued that the use of the word “Salafī” to describe these two movements is an equivocation based on a mistake. While the movement of contemporary Salafīs may be rightfully called by that name, al-Afghānī and ʿAbduh never used the term. Only Western scholars of the 1920s and 30s, most importantly Louis Massignon (1883–1962), called this latter movement “salafī”. This paper reevaluates the evidence presented by Lauzière and argues that Massignon did not make a mistake. The paper describes analytically both reform movements and draws the conclusion that there is a historic continuity that justifies calling them both “salafī”. Depuis l’émergence de la discipline uṣūl al-fiqh, il existe une tension entre le taqlīd et l’ijtihād plus ou moins affirmée selon les auteurs et les époques. Cette tension a trouvé avec l’apparition du wahhabisme une expression renouvelée. L’objet de cet article est de rendre compte de la controverse entre deux penseurs musulmans contemporains et de montrer comment derrière le vif débat qu’ils conduisirent à propos de l’ijtihād et du taqlīd se trouve en jeu la définition de l’orthodoxie sunnite.

تاريخ مشيخة الزبير النجدية في جنوب العراق من التواريخ التي لم تعط حقها في البحث والتحليل من قبل المؤرخين. إن ما حدث في نجد فترة قيام الدولة السعودية الأولى ودعوة الإمام محمد بن عبد الوهاب ساهم بشكل رئيسي في نمو مشيخة الزبير وتشكل كيانها السياسي من خلال الهجرات التي توالت إليها من نجد. هذه الهجرات كانت شاملة جميع شرائح المجتمع النجدي فنجد على سبيل العلماء والأمراء والصناع والحرفيين من ضمن المهاجرين. هذا المقال يركز على ما تمت كتابته عن تاريخ الزبير ومحاولة تبيان مواطن الخلل فيه. بشكل دقيق يركز المقال على نقد مراجع ومصادر التاريخ الزبيري الذي كتبه المهاجرون النجديون أنفسهم من حيث تهميش هذه الكتب لبعض الأحداث الرئيسية أو المرور عليها دون تحليل عميق يوضح أهمية هذه المشيخة النجدية ودورها في الأحداث. انتقائية الأحداث كذلك لها نصيب في النقد إذ يحاول المقال تبيان الخلل المنهجي الذي انتهجه بعض من كتب تاريخ الزبير. كما أن المقال يركز على توضيح خلل طريقة كتابة بعض هذه المراجع وعدم ترابط عناوين الفصول والمواضيع فيها. أخيرا المقال يحاول لفت انتبها الباحثين إلى أهمية التاريخ المهمش في الخليج والجزيرة العربية ويدعوا للالتفات بصورة أعمق لمثل هذه التواريخ مما يساهم في تعميق التحليل التاريخي للروابط الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والسياسية بين المشيخات التي كانت قائمة في تلك الفترة.

Makalah ini membincangkan mengenai Wahhabiyyah berdasarkan pandangan Muḥammad Abū Zahrah dalam bukunya, Tārīkḥ al-Madhāhib al-Islāmiyyah Fī al-Siyāsah Wa al-ʿAqāi’d Wa Tāríkh al-Madhāhib Al-Fiqhiyyah. Muḥammad Abū Zahrah merupakan seorang ulama muktabar di Mesir yang memiliki kepakaran dalam bidang perundangan. Karya beliau yang menjadi rujukan utama makalah ini terbahagi kepada tiga bahagian iaitu politik, akidah dan fiqh. Beliau juga mengkhususkan satu topik membincangkan mengenai kemunculan gerakan baharu iaitu Wahhabiyyah, Bahāʿiyyah dan Qādiyaniyyah. Makalah ini memfokuskan analisis pandangan Muḥammad Abū Zahrah terhadap Wahhabiyyah bagi mendapatkan gambaran yang jelas mengenai kumpulan ini.  Beliau menggariskan lapan ciri perilaku Wahhabi yang mana kesemua ciri ini saling berkait antara satu sama lain. Analisis ini turut mengemukakan pandangan Hersi Mohamad Hilole dalam bukunya yang bertajuk al-Salafiyyah al-Wahhābiyyah Bayna Muʿayyidiihā Wa Muntaqidīhā dan Naṣir ʿAbd al-Karim al-ʿAql melalui penulisannya, Islāmiyyah Lā Wahhābiyyah. Makalah ini juga menghuraikan hujah sokongan dan penolakan berdasarkan ciri-ciri yang dinyatakan oleh Muḥammad Abū Zahrah. Oleh itu, makalah ini menggunakan kaedah kualitatif iaitu kajian teks, yang secara khususnya tertumpu kepada kaedah analisis kandungan kepada skop Wahhabiyyah menurut pandangan Muḥammad Abū Zahrah. Hasil daripada kajian ini, terdapat tiga tema utama dapat dibentuk mengenai ciri-ciri Wahhabi seperti yang telah dibincangkan oleh Muḥammad Abū Zahrah. Ciri-ciri ini adalah pertama, tauhid dan ibadah. Kedua, sikap Wahhabi mengenai bidaah. Dan ketiga, sikap radikal golongan Wahhabiyyah dalam perkara agama sehingga mengkafirkan dan membunuh.

This chapter examines how the Arab Spring was gradually sectarianized, leading to the emergence of much more rigid and puritanical sect-based identities and inter-communal conflicts across the Middle East and extending even further outside of the region and across the Muslim-majority world.  Using the social movement theory concept of ‘framing,’ it considers how the various political and armed actors involved in the Syrian civil war and the conflict in Iraq, including regional actors such as the Iranian government, Hizbullah, Sunni and Salafi actors in the Arab Gulf states, and Sunni rebel and other militant jihadi organizations such as Jabhat al-Nusra/Jabhat Fath al-Sham, Islamic State, Jaysh al-Islam, and Ahrar al-Sham, have drawn on competing historical narratives and memory in combination with contemporary events to produce a thoroughly modern but also selectively ‘historicised’ social mobilization narrative meant to encourage activism from their target audiences.  The ways in which clashing historical memory and narratives are deployed in regional conflicts, which constitutes a form of re-fighting the past in the present, are analyzed.  Specific historical references, such as the invocation of Shi‘i legendary heroes of Karbala such as Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas, which are today deployed as rhetorical weapons in geopolitical contests over power and political dominance, are also considered in detail.

The rise since mid-2014 of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) — a terrorist group otherwise known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the Islamic State (IS), or Daesh (after its Arabic acronym) — seems to have eclipsed other manifestations of global Islamist violence. ISIS’s notoriety is attributable to, among other things, its spectacular brutality, territorial gains, and apocalyptic ideology. ISIS intentionally employs violence as a political weapon and showcases grisly online images to cow populations under its control and convince the large viewing public of ISIS’s invincibility. Emotional trauma is purposely inflicted as feelings of fear, anger, and hopelessness spread among the masses. Escaping the attention of many is the fact that ISIS taps into sentiments that have been fostered by extremist policies of many Muslim governments and leaders themselves as an outgrowth of decades of authoritarian rule following post-colonial upheavals in many Muslim societies.

The chapter offers a conceptualization of the Qāḍīzādeli movement through the prism of belief (īmān) vis-а-vis unbelief (kufr). In so doing, it first introduces the concept of takfīr, including some of its classical foundations relevant to the debates in the Ottoman age, as a means for distinguishing belief and unbelief. I shall then go on to the Qāḍīzādelis themselves, suggesting a framework for inquiry into their role in the spread of heightened awareness of unbelief in the Ottoman age. I thus argue that, among other things, the Qāḍīzādeli orthodoxy staged in the Ottoman religious scene was distinguished by a strong emphasis on the struggle against unbelief that was embodied in the proliferation of “heretical innovations” (bidaʿ), not all of which were to be subsumed under the rubric of takfīr, with its strict legal consequences. Finally, I deal with cases that delineate some traceable lines of continuity between the Qāḍīzādelis, their inspiration, Muḥammad b. ʿAlī al-Birgiwī, known also as Birgili Meḥmed Efendi (d. 1573),6 and other Ottoman and Arab-Islamic revivalist scholars and religious groups.

Durante a última década, o islão se tornou muito visível publicamente e muito importante politicamente em Moçambique. Diversas mesquitas foram construídas nas cidades e no campo e o presidente da República, de confissão católica, passou a usar indumentárias muçulmanas quando de sua visita a regiões de predominância muçulmana e até mesmo em seu próprio aniversário. Por sua vez, os partidos políticos passaram a manifestar um interesse crescente por essa religião e, mutatis mutandis, os muçulmanos se tornaram atores importantes nas questões nacionais. Todavia, não foi sempre assim; muito pelo contrário. Ainda que numerosos, os muçulmanos foram na verdade marginalizados, quando não combatidos pelo poder colonial português, tendo sido censurados e até mesmo reprimidos pelo novo partido " marxista " após a independência nacional. Em outras palavras, os anos 1980-1990 assistiram a uma viragem na posição do islão na sociedade moçambicana. Isto suscita uma série de questões. Primeiramente, qual é a natureza exata desta reviravolta? Quando ela se deu e como ela aconteceu? Pois, quais são as suas causas? Seria o fruto de fatores internos ou externos ao país? Seria o resultado de mudanças no seio do islão ou dentro do próprio poder político? Enfim, qual a situação político-religiosa no país hoje, após a viragem? Partindo deste cenário como base, o que é possível prever ou imaginar para o futuro? Estas são algumas das questões que inspiraram este artigo e às quais pretendemos oferecer uma resposta. Pouco foi escrito sobre o islão em Moçambique e menos ainda no tocante ao período pós-colonial. Em parte, isto se deve à hegemonia intelectual cristã ligada à colonização portuguesa pró-católica. Deve-se também à política antirreligiosa do primeiro governo independente e à hegemonia " materialista " que predominou nos estudos moçambicanos até meados dos anos 1980. Ademais, a dificuldade da língua árabe ou suaíle representa uma barreira que quase nenhum pesquisador em Moçambique conseguiu superar. De qualquer forma, há certamente uma lacuna na historiografia do islão em Moçambique. É necessário preenchê-la para que possamos melhorar nossa compreensão acerca da história do Moçambique contemporâneo, mas também para enriquecermos nossa compreensão sobre o islão em África, sobretudo em África Oriental. Efetivamente, se há poucos estudos sobre o islão em Moçambique, não há praticamente nenhuma possibilidade de comparar o caso moçambicano ao de seus vizinhos. Contudo, é importante avaliar as diferenças e as semelhanças entre as atitudes e as políticas religiosas dos poderes coloniais inglês e português, os regimes pós-coloniais nacionalistas e marxistas e a orientação liberal – quiçá neoliberal – das políticas religiosas dos governos atuais. É igualmente necessário poder comparar as diferentes correntes do islão (sufismo, deobandismo, wahabismo, etc.) nestes países e poder avaliar a respectiva penetração de novas organizações islâmicas como Africa Muslim Agency, World Muslim League ou a Sociedade do Apelo Islâmico
