However, after a certain height of structure for medium to high-rise buildings this type of structure is no longer economic because of increased dead load, less stiffness, span restriction, low natural frequency and hazardous formwork. So, the Structural engineers are facing the challenge of striving for the most efficient and economical design solution while ensuring that the final design of a building must be serviceable for its intended function, habitable for its occupants and safe over its design lifetime. Steel and concrete composite structures are becoming a more and more common solution for buildings, since its structural efficiency and fast erection methods make its use economically competitive. Use of composite material is of particular interest, due to its significant potential in improving the overall performance through rather modest changes in manufacturing and constructional technologies. The results of this work show that the Steel Structures are the best solution for high rise structure as compared to R.C.C structure as shown in literature is for commercial buildings having large span. Comparative study includes deflection, axial force and shear force, bending moment in column and beam, cost. In this project study of various multi-storeyed residential buildings like G+7, G+14, G+21 are analysed by using STAAD-Pro software.

The present research explores the use of terrazzo and mosaic floors in the Interwar buildings of Greece, particularly in its capital Athens. The main objective is to demonstrate that floors are a highly important element of architectural expression and therefore worth preserving. The paper’s aim is to highlight how these ancient techniques, while remaining unaltered in time, were also used in a modern architectural context. The architectural and social context related to these floor finishes will be examined in order to understand their use and subsequently how location and use affected their preservation status. Finally, going through an analysis of how classic conservation principles should be
modified, some proposals for their theoretical and practical  conservation issues will be formulated.

Everyone already knows that products derived from wood are good for the environment, but they are sometimes perceived as being expensive to purchase and maintain. The reality is that the cost of purchasing wood based products is falling every day. Similarly, wooden floor tiles which initially perceived to be expensive have become increasingly affordable over the years and easy to maintain. Granite is an igneous rock formed from volcanic activity. Granite tile remains a popular flooring choice because of its overall resilience, strength, and number of unique colour options. Its rich varieties of colours make suitable for any kind of building project, whether residential or commercial. It is expensive to acquire but the money spent on granite tiles can be said to be well spent in view of the durability and aesthetic quality it brings to the projects. However, in comparing granite with wooden tiles, it is necessary to employ the use of Life Cycle Analysis to exhaustively scrutinize both tiles before making a decision. The reason for the Life Cycle Analysis is to find out which product has a better cost advantage, durability, aesthetics, and maintenance and eco-friendly posture.

Floor beam is a structural element of fuselage which is mainly used for providing horizontal space to aircraft crew and is fixed with fuselage skin. In this I-section beam is picked for designing the fuselage floor beam which is better in comparison to other cross sections. In this, the design of aircraft floor beam is conceptual design for the enhancement of strength, durability, cost and weight reduction. The major problems of existing aluminium floor beam are increased weight and less stiffness. Hence, CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastics) has chosen for the designing of floor beam in the aircraft. After the selection of material and cross section of floor beam, the whole parameters of cross section of floor has studied and designed in UG NX8 software with the standard dimensions of a floor beam then the model is imported to Ansys 14.5 for the analysis and optimization. The expected outcome is to reduce the weight to strength ratio, cost, design and style outlook with weight reduction of fuselage.

This study concerns a cleanroom changing facility where there is a high personnel throughput, making it prone to the transfer of contamination due to air disturbance. It involved examining the counts on surfaces prior to entering the changing room and from the corridor leading out of the changing room. A variable was introduced whereby the cleanroom floor was fitted with polymeric flooring (Clean-Zone and Work Zone*). The counts pre- and post- the fitting of the polymeric flooring were compared using a statistical test for significance.

Slender monumental stairs are major architectural features in many high-end building structures. Architectural requirements for these are usually very aggressive, with long spans and slender stringers being the norm. The resulting low natural frequencies are often within reach of the lower harmonics (which have high amplitudes) of the vertical force caused by a person descending the stair. Also, some configurations with very low frequency lateral vibration modes might allow high lateral accelerations. Because the potential for annoying vibrations is high, it is critical that stair designers have access to evaluation methods. Current evaluation methods rely on finite-element analysis-based response prediction methods that are outside the reach of many structural engineering firms. This paper presents a simplified vertical acceleration prediction method, based on the fundamental natural mode of the stair, which is suitable for manual calculations. Response predictions are compared to experimental measurements to calibrate the prediction method for design use. Lateral vibrations are discussed, and an evaluation method is proposed. Floor vibration is widely recognized as an important limit state in the design of steel-framed floors, and various evaluation methods have been developed over the years. These methods range from simplified methods that are suitable for routine usage during the design phase to complex computerized or probabilistic models. The former are in common usage in the structural design community. It is critically important to structural engineers that the accuracies of the commonly used methods are known; however, a study of these methods based on a large database of recorded observations is not available in the literature. Therefore, the authors investigated the evaluation accuracy of four well-known simplified methods by comparing predicted and observed acceptability (whether or not occupants complained) of 50 floor bays in real buildings framed with W-shaped members subjected to walking excitations. The percentage of correct predictions is used to judge the accuracy of each method. It is observed that the AISC Design Guide 11 accurately predicted acceptability of floors; two methods from the SCI P354 (Simplified Method and Vibration Dose Value Method) fairly accurately predicted acceptability of floors. The HIVOSS method provided unconservative predictions. In addition, modified version of the P354 method was investigated in an attempt to improve the accuracy of these methods.

It is known that the slabs on soil constitute one of the most difficult types of structures despite their apparent simplicity. The objective of this paper is to give a general survey of the design of ground supported slabs with the interposition of a suitable subbase. A solution is proposed with the following characteristics: (1) complete suppression of joints; (2) conventional reinforcement with meshes in the upper and lower fiber of the slab in order to confront and distribute cracking that is caused by hindrance of free contractions and expansions; (3) effective confrontation of problems of bulging. The proposal is in effect on one hand for industrial floorings and on the other hand for concrete pavings with large durability requirement.

Although transportation infrastructures occupy an important part of public space, they have apparently been lead astray by recent developments in logistics services. Despite the categorical difference between transportation and logistics, narratives of quality, security and standards accompanied by specific spatial patterns, have infiltrated our everyday mobility infrastructures. Space structure is defined by logistics-influenced ‘functional diagrams’ and is reduced to mere transitory settings. This essay is an effort to challenge the contemporary ‘fulfilment’-influenced, network-based perception of human transportation spaces, towards, instead, a relational, and effectively political, understanding of them. This is not to return to previous debates on the re-emergence of place and identity, but rather to seek possible strategies of interruption of that detrimental, endlessly intensified circulation imposed on public space. The essay is structured upon two competing ideas, conceptually represented by the notions of floor and ground. The floor is the most important element of logistics architecture, preparing a smooth surface for commodities circulation. By contrast, the ground embraces anomalies representing finitude, an important notion for the project of interruptions. The essay proposes a recalibration and balancing of both these forces, establishing an ecology that also encourages seemingly ‘unproductive’ relations, detours and other spaces of distractions, ideas that logistical architectures cannot even grasp.

Characteristics

Au regard « de l'absence » des sols d'occupation néolithiques, les recherches sur l'habitat dans le Nord de la France sont basées sur des plans de bâtiment à partir de l'organisation des trous de poteau. Pourtant la présence dans le Sud-Ouest du Bassin parisien de sites peu stratifiés à concentration de mobilier suggérerait la préservation de sols d'occupation. En questionnant la relation entre le sédiment et l'artefact, la démarche géoarchéologique, fondée sur la micromorphologie, vise à déterminer les processus de formation de ces sites pour interroger la préservation des sols d'occupation ainsi que la nature des activités humaines qu'ils enregistrent. Cinq sites à concentrations de mobilier (Gas, Sours, Poupry, Pussigny et Maillé) découverts en Beauce et en Touraine ont été étudiés. La stratégie d'échantillonnage établie sur le terrain est double : stratigraphique, en intégrant la transition avec le substrat, et spatiale entre coeur et périphérie des concentrations de mobilier.

L'élaboration d'un modèle qualitatif du sol néolithique, exprimé par une classification de micro-ethnofaciès d'aménagement et de fonctionnement a permis d'identifier sa nature. L'analyse microstragraphique contribue à restituer la partition de l'espace selon la nature des activités et de retracer son évolution dans le temps.

Le site « les Grands Noyers » à Gas permet d'illustrer le potentiel de l'approche géoarchéologique engagée sur le sol néolithique et de proposer une reconstitution de l'histoire fonctionnelle de ce site : construction d'un bâtiment aux bases de mur en terre massive après terrassement et nivellement du terrain, puis aménagement et fonctionnement des sols intérieurs domestiques et extérieurs qualifiés de cour.

Les résultats acquis confirment la préservation, au sein des sols d'occupation néolithiques, des gestes et des pratiques humaines. Ainsi, le paradigme du « sol néolithique disparu » s'estompe ouvrant de riches perspectives d'ordre palethnographique pour l'habitat néolithique.

Cold-formed steel sections are used joists, Barriers and floor decking in construction industry for past several decades. The development of the cold formed steel tubular sections is being used in beams, columns and truss members of residential buildings and industrial buildings. Generally a tubular section fails due to torsional buckling, local buckling and distortional buckling. In order to overcome this failure in-filled material is used to avoid those buckling. This will have limiting width- to- thickness ratio or diameter –to-thickness ratio. In the present study in-filled material is used as light weight concrete. A non-linear Finite Element modeling is done to analyze cold-formed steel in-filled frame section for residential building under static loading using ANSYS12.WORKBENCH. Beam column joints are connected by welding through gusset plate. Deflection characteristics, stresses and strains to the frame are analysed.

The study was conducted on the residence of a notable Portuguese archaeologist of the 19th
century. The building is known as Casa De Sarmento (Sarmento House) and is located in
Guimarães, Portugal. The ground floor and exterior walls of this two storied structure were built
in stone whilst the first and second floors as well as all the interior walls, were made of timber.
The wooden roof and the first floor were severely damaged by fire, in 1974, which led to numerous
incompatible interventions such as a steel roof, concrete staircase, and partition walls. The Sarmento
Martin Society and the City Council aim to restore the house to its previous glory, which
includes a new wooden roof and wooden staircase. Two adversely affected rooms were selected
for capacity analysis and safety assessment. Numerical models of the two floors were prepared on
SAP2000 and calibrated by performing Dynamic analysis and by matching the shapes and frequencies
of the test results. Resistograph® tests were used to obtain the residual cross-sections of
the main beams. After the calibration of the numerical mod-el, the capacity of the beams was determined
by using Eurocode 5. For the imposed floor load, two Categories of Use were analyzed
in order to understand the floors capacity for different uses. The study suggests to replace the
beams with insufficient capacity. It also provides a design and cost estimation for the intervention
required for the two selected rooms. This study was carried out in the scope of the Master in Structural

With no dividing walls and little evidence for benches or platforms, each 9th millennium structure at Aşıklı was single-roomed, making it difficult to try to infer how the spaces therein were typically used. In 2010, when the Aşıklı Höyük excavations began anew, the team adopted a micro-scale approach with the intent of providing detailed context-based analyses to answer such questions. In addition to phytolith analyses and micromorphological studies (Tsartsidou, Mentzer, in this volume), the research conducted here as part of the chemical characterization of floor sediments contributes to a growing picture of how spaces may have been used by the Aşıklı inhabitants. This chapter presents results of a pilot study on the sediment geochemistry of interior floors for a few representative Level 5 buildings and structures in order to show the potential of the technique and its wider applicability to Aşıklı.
Geochemical analyses in archaeology have a long history. Elemental testing of archaeological sites began in the 1920s in Scandinavia when soil scientist Olaf Arrhenius, conducting analyses to determine agricultural productivity, demonstrated the relationship between high phosphate levels and prehistoric settlements (Arrhenius 1929). Since then, sediment geochemistry has become part of the typical analytical protocol of a number of excavations and has been implemented in archaeological research not only to locate and delineate sites but also to gain insights into household activities (Barba 1985; Eidt 1977; Entwistle et al. 2000; Linderhold – Lundberg 1994; Middleton – Price 1996; Middleton 2004; Oonk 2009; Terry et al. 2004; Wells et al. 2000, 2007; Wilson et al. 2005). Applications of geochemical techniques in Anatolia, however, remain limited (but see Akyol – Demirci 2005; Arslan et al. 2014; Luke et al. 2017; Middleton 2004; Middleton et al. 2005; Özbal 2006; Vyncke et al. 2011).
Geochemical sediment analyses, which began only with phosphorus (P), have with the improvements in instrumentation, shifted to a focus on multiple elements simultaneously, thereby enabling a more nuanced reading of household activities (Heidenreich et al. 1973; Middleton – Price 1996; Middleton 2004; Oonk 2009; Wells 2000, 2007). Many ethnographic studies, a few of which originate from Turkey (Luke et al. 2017; Middleton 2004), have used floors of modern traditional structures sampled through controlled experiments to create a comparative dataset to confirm that human and animal activities can indeed leave differences that are detectable elementally (Barba 2007; Hjulström – Isaksson 2009; Kanthilatha et al. 2017; Middleton – Price 1996; Milek 2012; Pecci et al. 2017; Rondelli et al. 2014; Wilson et al. 2008). Excluding instances where post-depositional factors such as leaching and hydrology may affect the integrity of deposits (Macphail et al. 2004; Wilson et al. 2008), geochemistry has in conjunction with other variables functioned as a way to identify and interpret archaeological floors. Nowadays, studies of sediment geochemistry have moved to the molecular level, using gas chromatography to identify lipid compounds or to approach questions at the isotopic level (Bull et al. 1999; Kanthilatha et al. 2017; Middleton et al. 2010; Shahack-Gross et al. 2008; Pecci et al. 2017).

The analysis of the floor restoration is about the different types of classical symmetry, antisymmetry, color symmetry and similarity symmetry. There are interesting conclusions both about symmetries and beyond mathematics in general. Promotion is the purpose of this study, because the reconstruction was made soon in 2020 in Israel.
