Tracing graduates has become an imperative for higher education institutions much more during the pandemic. This tracer determined the employment and employability status of the 2019 BSE graduates and identified the competencies they adequately acquired and deemed vital for work. It used descriptive design, and data were collected from the 103 graduates through a Google form with open and closed-ended questions administered between November and December 2020. Results revealed that most of the graduates had been employed in teaching and teaching-related jobs but mostly in contractual arrangements within the first and second six months after graduation. Many had their first jobs with meager salaries from the private sector. Communication, pedagogy, information communication technology, time management, and flexibility were the top competencies they adequately acquired and were beneficial in work. Higher education worldwide is facing unprecedented challenges — the dramatic rise of for-profit institutions, rapidly increasing expectations about what services colleges and universities should provide, and a complex society that demands college graduates with even more skills and capacities. To understand how higher education can effectively address these challenges, this paper investigates the public and private purpose of higher education and what it means for higher education’s future. Utilizing Critical Interpretive Synthesis (CIS) and signaling theory, this research reviews the changing meanings of ‘public’ and ‘private’ in higher education from the perspective of (1) education providers and (2) undergraduate students. A comprehensive search of the literature selected 60 peer-reviewed journal articles and twenty-five books published between 2000 and 2016. Nine synthetic constructs of the goals were found and while there was some agreement between institutions and students on the economic and social benefits of higher education, the review was characterized by a significant misalignment. The findings suggest that student expectations for a college degree tends to be very instrumental and personal, while higher education purpose of undergraduate education tend towards highly ideal life- and society changing consequences. This paper offers eight recommendations for policymakers to consider that address the growing misalignment gap between education providers and undergraduate students. The ultimate goal is to develop renovation or repurposing strategy across competing imperatives and to outline success measures to critically define, measure, and evaluate the achievement of specific goals and outcomes in hopes of resolving potential skills mismatch in a world of massive cataclysmic change.

A longitudinal study of one Bachelor of Nursing course (n=181) was carried out to determine the relationship between academic outcomes and pre-entry qualifications and to discuss the progress and success of students with conventional and non-conventional qualifications. A multi-linear regression analysis was used to determine which pre-entry qualification best explained the variation in the course marks. Results identified that the number of GCSE A grades obtained significantly predicted success on the BN course. On the basis of this finding it has been suggested that the new AS levels, introduced as part of the reformed 16-19 curriculum, may have greater predictive value than current A levels since they allow a broader range of study. Students entering the course with non-conventional qualifications were found to achieve slightly lower marks throughout the course and had a high rate of attrition. Further research is needed to replicate these findings and to determine whether high grades in any specific subject, for example Biology, improve the predictive value of pre-entry qualifications.

Introduction. This article analyses the impact of an intercultural learning intervention in a Spanish university post-European Higher Education Area implementation. Objective. Our research’s main objective consisted of measuring the development of intercultural competence in the first cohort of a Translation and Intercultural Communication bachelor’s degree in a Spanish university, before and after taking specific courses in intercultural studies and spending a study abroad semester. Methodology. A mixed methodology was implemented, in which the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) was used as a measuring instrument. Additionally, in-depth personal interviews were conducted to complement the data obtained. Results. The results of this study show that the programming and sequencing of specific courses, together with experiences abroad, contribute to the development of intercultural competence. Conclusions. Context: In the Dutch educational system, different learning pathways to higher professional bachelor (or HBO) programmes have been created: the regular VET route, the general secondary education route, and continuing learning pathways (such as the Green Lyceum or GL) that combine characteristics of these two traditional routes and that are specifically designed for students who combine a relatively high cognitive level with an affinity for practical, vocation-oriented assignments. Approach: The present study aimed to compare the experiences of students coming from these three different learning pathways to HBO. 62 former GL students, 127 former middle-management VET (or MBO) students, and 81 former regular general secondary education (or HAVO) students completed an online questionnaire on their experiences in their first HBO study year and their scores on the various scales were compared. Findings: Students from the three groups were equally satisfied with their current HBO program...

The topicality of this research is determined by the following contradictions:  on the one hand, there exists clear necessity in using tutor guidance technology for would-be pre-school establishment teacher’s professional realization within, but, on the other hand, there is a lack in methodological background for this issue within the framework of educational relation subjects co-acting in higher education system. The aims of the research: to provide a theoretical basis for the possible implementation of tutor guidance technology for would-be pre-school establishment teacher’s professional realization within higher education system. The research has been conducted at three stages: at the first stage basic theoretical and methodological grounds for studying this issue have been determined, the analysis into previous scientific and methodological, psychological and pedagogical observations on the issue have been performed; at the second stage, as the result of employers’ and teachers’ questionnaire survey, issues in  would-be pre-school teachers’ personal and professional life have been established; at the third stage theoretical basis for tutor support organization peculiarities for bachelors seeking degree in pre-school teaching at university have been developed.

Background: Successful implementation of Basic life support (BLS) is critical in improving survival rates and outcomes. By extension, health care workers’ knowledge and awareness about BLS is also essential. To our knowledge, there is no available literature pertaining to the level of BLS knowledge of health care professionals in Yemen.Methods: Data was collected for this cross-sectional descriptive study from June to August 2020, using a 10-item questionnaire related to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and BLS, along with questions on socio-demographic characteristics. Participants were nurses in public and private hospitals located in Al-Rahida, Taiz governance and Hodeidah, Hodeidah governance in Yemen.Results: Among all completed surveys, 53.65% of answer choices for BLS knowledge were correct and 46.35% of answer choices were incorrect.
