ladystardustinblackjeans asked:

Hi!

I want to ask if it's possible to move the community button somewhere else now that everyone knows about it?

Changes in the outlay of the lower four buttons on mobile are always really disorienting, and making the dashboard button smaller is causing me to end up in search accidentally a lot (i imagine it's worse for people with bigger fingers).

I think communities are cool and they're a good idea! It's a very exciting development.

But maybe you could put them next to the shop or, even better, as one of the tabs for dashboard and "for you" page?

Thank you for your answer!

Answer: Hi, @ladystardustinblackjeans!

This is a good question. Right now, we are not planning to have a Communities tab on the dashboard. The Communities icon in the navigation bar will remain the place for everyone to find the communities they have already joined and to discover other communities—we really want people to find them quickly! But it’s great to see people using the feature, and we appreciate all the feedback—we would also point you to the Feedback Community to see what other users are saying.

Thanks also to @robin-you and @scallioncreamcheesebagel, who got in touch with similar questions.

Have a great day, and keep the questions coming folks!

blueboxbeagle asked:

Will there be a way to reblog a post made in a community to my blog?

I keep getting recommended posts in communities I'm not part of and I've wanted to reblog a few but didn't see a way to. Some the most famous Tumblr posts were those that "broke containment" and if there is no way for a post to ever leave a community I'm afraid there will be gems no one ever sees.

Answer: Hi there @blueboxbeagle!

As it happens, we have been discussing this a lot internally about whether reblogs should be allowed on community posts and other ways that posts could break containment (such as being recommended outside of the community).

For now, we want communities to be discoverable (hence the recommendations), but interaction is still only for members—so they continue to be the safe space we want them to be. This is a good question, though, and we will continue to think about it, discuss it, and work on it where it’s needed.

Thanks for getting in touch here. Keep the questions coming, folks.

fabioafterdark asked:

Will you be making it possible to fully opt out of communities? it doesn't interest me as a feature and it is very annoying to have suggestions for communities constantly on my dashboard, in search results, and the button at the bottom of the mobile app taking up space. it would be nice to have a toggle to just not be shown any of this.

Answer: Hi, @fabioafterdark!

Unfortunately, there will not be a way to fully opt-out of Communities.

That said, we may introduce more fine-grain controls for how community content is visible on Tumblr, just as we do with other types of content and controls for feeds. Thanks for your question here—while it’s not what we hope to hear, we certainly appreciate the feedback. And we can tell you that we’re actively working on it, and hope to have some news for you soon.

You’ll find it, as always, at @changes or here at @wip.

themirokai asked:

If my post gets reblogged to a Community I’m not in, will I get a notification about that? Or any indication of the activity on that post within the Community?

Also, can we get notifications when Community members are reacting to our posts within a Community? Right now I only see the reaction emojis people in the Community have put on my post if I go into the Community and look at the post again.

Thanks!

Answer: Hey there, @themirokai!

If my post gets reblogged to a Community I’m not in, will I get a notification about that? Or any indication of the activity on that post within the Community?

Not right now, but we actually have this ticketed! It may even be implemented before this answer goes live—you can see the latest over at @changes.

Also, can we get notifications when Community members are reacting to our posts within a Community? Right now I only see the reaction emojis people in the Community have put on my post if I go into the Community and look at the post again.

Hmm, now that’s an interesting idea to discuss with the team! We love this idea, but we don’t support that yet. It’s a good next step after we add activity items that your content was reblogged to a community in the first place. Leave this with us, and we hope to have news for you before too long.

Thanks for your questions, and keep them coming! Have a great day.

ecstaticallyelectrifying asked:

Hi! I wanted to reply to a post in a community with one of my sideblogs & realized it wasn't possible, is there any way this could be a thing in the future? Or possibly the ability to join with one of our sideblogs instead of our main?

Answer: Hi there, @ecstaticallyelectrifying!

We have a little good news for you. We want to make exactly this possible: to be able to join with a secondary blog, and, therefore, post with it. It just hasn’t been prioritized yet.

We wish we could put an ETA on it because we can assure you that all of us at Tumblr want this to happen. But we’re afraid that’s all we can say on this for now.

Communities is in constant change, however, as we are always working and developing and, hopefully, improving it! With a little luck, we will get something like this together before too long. You will find news here at @wip or over at @changes.

Thanks for your question, and keep ’em coming!

Two questions 1) I have figured out between tumblr blaze/premium/badges/supporter how to have prizes for gifts in a competition. But I have one question. Can tumblr supporter be gifted, it doesn't seem so. I know I can gift blaze/premium/badges but it doesn't seem i can gift supporter, am I wrong? 2) for community post can a tool like [at] everyone be used. I know all community members can be notified but can they all be mentioned that way?

Answer: Hi there @richardmurrayhumblr!

Thanks for your questions—we will answer them one at a time.

for community post can a tool like [at] everyone be used. I know all community members can be notified but can they all be mentioned that way?

We have had a similar idea very recently and thought that @admins or @mods could work well, too. That said, it is not on our roadmap to implement something like that right now, but we certainly hope someday. It will depend on several factors, not least more feedback!

1) I have figured out between tumblr blaze/premium/badges/supporter how to have prizes for gifts in a competition. But I have one question. Can tumblr supporter be gifted, it doesn’t seem so. I know I can gift blaze/premium/badges but it doesn’t seem i can gift supporter, am I wrong?

We allow gifting a single month or year of Premium. We currently do not do the same for Supporter, but it’s something we would love to do in time. There would, however, be considerable work to do on the backend first. While it’s not a priority, we agree that it would certainly be great to have.

Leave this with us for now, and if there’s any news, you will find it here or at @changes. Keep the questions coming, folks!

bander28 asked:

can we please have just some basic info about communities such as: do community posts show up on the dash. Can you reblog from communities to the dash. Can you make a private community. And if you really won't tell us anything to force us to try it, then at least: HOW do I make a new community. I'm begging you, if you really want us to use this so bad, to MAKE IT EASIER

Answer: Hi there, @bander28!

All good questions. We will answer them one by one.

do community posts show up on the dash?

On your following feed, no. However, we are working to add community posts to the For You page. Community posts show up in two places at the moment:

  • Within each community.
  • In the Communities feed, which currently shows posts from all the communities you have joined.

We are exploring the idea of showing community posts in other places, such as:

  • An option to include community posts in the Following feed for communities you have joined.
  • In the For You feed, recommended posts from public communities you have not joined.
  • Search results, posts from public communities matching the search term

Can you reblog from communities to the dash

No—the idea here is to make sure the communities you have joined are safe and cozy spaces so you feel confident about posting in them! We would add here that interacting with community posts is only possible from members.

Can you make a private community. And if you really won’t tell us anything to force us to try it, then at least: HOW do I make a new community

You sure can make a private community! Privacy is an option when you request your community, which you can do from here: request a new community, as displayed in the screenshot below.

Finally, we must point you to this guide at the Help Center, but with the additional warning that the Communities feature is still in Beta. This means that whatever we answer today may change tomorrow.

Thanks for your question, and we hope this helps!

riderthehenshin asked:

plzzzz make tags function within comunities.

when I tap on a tag in a Community it should show me all of the posts with that tag in that Community!

not all of the posts with the tag in the entirety of Tumblr!

Answer: Hey there, @riderthehensin!

A good question, and hopefully a little good news. We hear you, and we agree! Searching and tagging within Communities is certainly on the roadmap, it just hasn’t been prioritized yet.

We’re afraid we can’t say any more than that for now, but keep an eye on Communities Feedback, and the @changes blog!

Thanks for your question, and keep ’em coming, folks.

fandomsareforlife asked:

Is it possible for you to explain why when I search for something, possible communities are above users?

Answer: Hello, @fandomsareforlife!

Thanks for noticing! We can tell you this is just a little experiment we are working on. We’re trying to see if people seeking Communities is more useful than people seeking other individuals—you’ll find any updates over at @changes.

There are a lot of things coming for Communities. It is now in a kind of open beta with tens of thousands of participants, and we’ve been sharing roadmap updates and more in the Feedback community, for example—don’t miss it! You can find out more about this at the Help Center right here.

We hope you enjoy Communities. Thanks for your question! Keep ’em coming, folks.

vintageweddingdresses asked:

I'm VERY excited about the upcoming communities. Tumblr has always been very vacuous and shallow with little to no interaction. Drive-by follows and likes do nothing to build a community and the messaging utility is almost useless. I'd like to suggest that you implement categories such as we had waaaay back in Geocities (THAT shows my age!) to make it easier to find similar interests. 'Fashion Avenue' (for example) was heavily populated by folks who loved fashion.

Answer: Hey, @vintageweddingdresses!

As it happens, we’ve had just the same idea on this one. Great minds, and all that.

We are on the same page about categories, as you describe them here, and we want to do basically that. Same deal. Same energy. Stay tuned—with a bit of luck, it’s coming soon!

Communities is now in a kind of open beta with many tens of thousands of participants. You can find out more at the Help Center right here.

Thanks for your question! Keep ‘em coming, people.
