The present study, primarily of a theoretical nature, endeavors to accomplish two distinct objectives. First and foremost, it endeavors to engage in a thoughtful examination of the metaphysical significance that Anaximander’s philosophy embodies within the context of the nascent Western philosophical tradition. Furthermore, it aims to investigate how it was contemporaneous Buddhist thought, coeval with Anaximander’s era, that more explicitly elucidated the concept of the “void” as an inherent aspect of authentic existence. This elucidation was articulated through aphoristic discourse rather than being reliant on formal logical reasoning or structured arguments.

For Hegel, the commencement, which is immediate, needs also to be understood as a mediation, i.e. as something which cannot but unravel itself. Severino agrees on this proposition, but he also posits the commencement as the ultimate foundation: something furnished with a structure that would consist with a mono-dyadic-construct relationship that enables us to identify the foundation and then derivate from it the system of all determinations. For Hegel, though, relationship is not only a construct: an extrinsic relationship; but also an intrinsic relationship: the act that pushes all determinations beyond themselves. Inevitably, since it proceeds from a starting point, the system of determinations is posited; undeniably, though, it is indeed transcended. The unity of the system of determinations must not be confused with the unity of its foundation. The latter only is the reason for ablatio alteritatis, where duality – upon which relationship is based – is transcended.

The Given is what we define as ‘unavoidable’ whereas Reason is what we can instead best refer to as being ‘undeniable’. The Given merely constitutes the condition by virtue of which the negation can be posited and, in no sense, it is the condition of its own intelligibility. However what is unavoidable and what is undeniable are very easily confused. Also the ‘undeniable’, in fact, emerges from the failed attempt to negate it. However the undeniable represents the reason why any attempt to deny it is doomed to fail, not its result. The undeniable is the truth, i.e., the non-contradictory ground which prevents from ‘being’ what is determined, i.e., what is merely unavoidable. The latter is therefore intrinsically contradictory and thus coincides with its own undeniable self-contradiction.

We investigate from a philosophical point of view the concept of relation that is used to explain the physical phenomenon of Entanglement. If the concept of relation is understood in the ordinary sense of the mono‐dyadic construct, which requires a middle term between the two extremes, it is aporetic and, thus, incapable of explaining the phenomenon. To the contrary, we propose to think the relation as the act of self‐referring of related terms, which is unique and identical for both terms. In the unity of this act, the duality of terms disappears, so that the authentic unity is obtained. Moving from this concept of unity, the phenomenon of Entanglement becomes intelligible, since the two particles emerge as the two abstract sections of a unique reality.

costituisce l’unico, autentico significato.

The dominant ethical stance in economic analysis, especially in microeconomics, is grounded on a reduction of human behaviour to utility maximisation. We explore the concept of utility which is central to economic analysis, and investigate the significant semantic shift that it has undergone from the “old” to the modern “Max U” approach. It is shown that both the “old” and “new” concept of utility are reductionist, with the modern version being a more radical reductionism. The latter has replaced truth with the useful (i.e., utility maximisation), forgetting the theoretical philosophical dimension of ethics, and replaced subjectivity with individuals’ preferences. Against this, in this chapter, a theoretical philosophical perspective on economics is adopted that permits the recovery of intentional, goal-oriented behaviour and its representation in economic theory.

The fundamental motives of G.R. Bacchin’s thought start taking shape
already in his writing of 1963, which revolve around the impossibility of defining
being and its undeniability, philosophy as the act of self-transcending of the finite,
the limit of speech and the absoluteness of truth, which constitutes the aim of
search, without however the pretence of being able to determine it, the value of
dialogue that projects the participants towards truth, the difference between the
subjectivity of the point of view and the objectivity of the ground, the difference between
formal knowledge, which stands as an activity, and authentic knowing, which
expresses itself as an act that is unitary by its very nature.

In social sciences and, in particular, in economics the debate on the most adequate model of explanation of social phenomena has been centred around two models: Methodological Individualism and Holism. While Methodological Individualism claims to be the most rigorous attempt to explain social phenomena by reducing them to their ultimate components, Holism stresses the primacy of the social relation, outside of which individuals cannot be understood as analytical units. In the analysis, we will refer to the way the debate has influenced economics education too through the debate on microfoundations and the role of individual preferences. In synthesis, we aim to show that the two explanatory models, rather than being opposed, need to be integrated, because they need each other. But for this to be done, we need to reflect on the role that the concept of “relation” plays in our understanding of the social structure and of the dynamics that characterises it. Indeed, the holistic-systemic...

Starting with the deductivenomo logical model, which can be considered the standard model, we have shown that you cannot claim that this model of explanation can be gave in a unique form, in line with the methodological reductionism that could be called “radical”. The systemic view has allowed us to capture the specific object of study in the multiplicity of relations that it structure its and to inserting each specific scientific theory in the socioeconomic contextof its birth. The application, then, of the systemic view to the science education underlines the need of a deep change of both the scholastic and university education.

The relation between consciousness and object in the Introduction to the Phenomenology of Spirit synthetises two fundamental Hegelian concepts: that of “relation” and that of “absolute”. In this article we show that Hegel not always interprets the relation as a medium between extremes, because in some very significant passages he intends it as an act. Furthermore the absolute is not only interpreted as determined but also as emergent beyond the universe of determinations, that is beyond the relation/contraposition of determined and undetermined.

In this paper we aim to show an intrinsic contradiction of contemporary Metaphysical Realism by focusing on the relation between the subject and the object. Metaphysical Realism considers facts and objects as being empirical, and therefore they are considered in relation to the subject, while at the same time facts are assumed to belong to an autonomous and independent reality. However, if a real object is considered to be independent from the subject, once it enters in a relation with the latter, a real object must undergo an intrinsic transformation. However, since an object cannot avoid this transformation then recovering the real or “absolute” object from the perceived object is not possible. In this way, the inherent contradiction of the “absolute” as being determined, i.e., defined by virtue of a limit, is revealed.

This research focuses on the explanation of actions and behavior with the objective to compare mechanistic explanations, considered by many to be the only scientific explanation, to hermeneutic explanations, which include intentional explanations, which are based on reasons rather than causes. If practical syllogisms make explicit reasons that are the basis for action and which are indicated in the premises, then thinking expresses its causal power in order to configure behavior. Thus, outlining an explanation makes explicit inferences in the form of condition- al syllogisms. Explanations are related to meanings and reasons that justify intentional actions and cannot be reduced to simple mechanistic explanations. When meanings appear, the production processes cease to be automatic and subjectivity comes into play. The formal and syntactic dimensions are integrated by the se- mantic, and then cognitive functions become hermeneutic functions that are the result of conscious thought and are expressed by natural language. The latter, as a meta-language allows one to formulate an explanation in speech, which can be configured as a “psycho-logical explanation” which goes beyond a mechanistic and physicalist explanation while retaining its nature as a scientific explanation.

In this article we reconsider Parmenides' Parricide, which is notoriously thought to have been accomplished by Plato, and show that is not based on strong reasons but on the alleged undeniability of experience. Instead we think that such undeniability is only formal, being based on an extrinsic denial which requires that which is denied. Moreover we show that those who oppose the unity of being, which is its absoluteness-as Parmenides maintains-, to the multiplicity of entities do not consider that they are not disposed on the same level, so that their opposition is untenable. Since the One (Being) and the Many (non-being) are on different levels, one can understand the level of being as emerging beyond the universe of determination (finite being), which is that which Parmenides identifies with non-being.
