This study examines the design of a blended flipped classroom approach through a hybrid e-learning framework for undergraduate Arabic language studies. This involves the design, development and production of e-learning platforms, where e-simulation activities and gamification subject resources, support mechanisms (pre-class) and subject resources that addresses informative learning, collaborative and reflective learning (post-class) that enhance and extend the engagement, interactivity and agency in the context of e-learning environments. The proposed framework embeds a more holistic Arabic learning with providing students some excitement on the topic to be learned prior to the class and the post e-learning platform serves to facilitate student involvement in applying the knowledge acquired with self-assessment practices at their own pace and time anywhere. This largely means that the 4 hour per week Arabic face-to-face class can now be extended further from interactive instructional delivery to deeper learning in terms of students' understanding and focus more on the selective key pillars by showing the link through relatedness of being more effective.

One of the more noticeable developments in Malaysia over the last 30 years is the ability to deliver higher education programs and courses via distance mode. The development and evolution in Open and Distance Education (ODE) and innovations in information and communication technologies (ICT) have made access to knowledge and educational services in Malaysia more flexible as the delivery of distance programs now ranges from print to tutorial via video conferencing. Although ICT are affording distance teachers (DTs) extraordinary options and opportunities in the delivery of distance courses, realizing effective correspondence or communication and meaningful interactions appear a challenge to distance educators and learners alike. Effective distance learning dictates a shift towards a more “learner centered approach” to the teaching and learning transaction via the delivery mechanisms. This paper presents distance learners’ perspective on their learning by looking at teacher-learner li...

This paper investigates the role of distance education in encouraging lifelong learning among rural students on the West Coast of Sabah, Malaysia. Two national secondary schools, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Badin and SMK St. John in the Tuaran district, West Coast of Sabah, were chosen for this study. At the preliminary stage of the study, a total of 64 selected rural students were given questionnaires regarding their opinions on their science learning experiences. There were five questions pertaining to lifelong learning which were included in the questionnaires. Students were given teaching and learning modules on one of the Form 2 (year 8) science chapters. At the end of the study, these students were given the questionnaire as feedback forms pertaining to the researcher's teaching method. An analysis of the questionnaire revealed two salient findings : 84 percent of the respondents were interested in science, and 88 percent wanted to learn science in depth, other than using the text book. Meanwhile, a comparison between the students' pre-and post-written test marks showed an improvement over 40 percent, and this correlated with the majority who expressed great interest, through the questionnaires, in science-related activities. Based on the questionnaire feedback, 93 percent were inspired to pursue science courses in universities. This indicated that the students intended to make science-related subjects as their priority in earning a degree and thereby obtain science-based jobs after graduation.

Massive open online courses (MOOCs) are often touted as a watershed in higher education, with some describing MOOCs as ‘the most important education technology in 200 years (Regalado, 2012). According to Selingo (2013), the idea of offering MOOCs to thousands of students has become the latest and feasible way to deliver courses in higher education. The MOOCs movement in the public universities in Malaysia is a very recent development. Approached with high hopes and conviction, Malaysia is the first country in the world to implement a nationwide strategy that integrates MOOCs with on-campus university classes. The Education Ministry also announced in September 2014 that OpenLearning.com will be the official MOOC platform for the endeavour. Under the plan, Malaysian universities will develop MOOCs on core modules and students from the twenty public universities will participate in those courses through Open Learning’s social learning platform.

Open and Flexible Learning is an excellent method of reaching all types of learners. It is truly a medium that helps to democratize education to all. Today, we are currently experiencing a time of constant evolution in the field of education in which students require more resources and tools to obtain the information and construction of knowledge. One such resource is the use of open and distance learning environment, where the lecturer assigns additional activities for the understanding of the concepts seen before. But there are times when the student does not understand the content because of the form it represents, making it necessary to have more options to facilitate the understanding of content through different ways that may be more attractive to the students, achieving more active participation in the subject and an affinity that leads to a better learning experience. This is the goal of the study, which proposes a model called " Learning Buffet Model " for designing Open and Flexible Learning content adaptable to the student´s learning style. This learning buffet model can be used as a fundamental model and applied in any area or discipline of education as it forces the consideration of four components (leaning style, content, pedagogy and technology) in the design of the lesson plan and subsequently enrich the learning environment with more specific learning objects the subjects taught.

In essence, research is about gathering facts, increasing our knowledge and understanding, and providing us with the information needed to answer our queries, for problem solving and decision making. The enculturation research is crucial so that it becomes a natural process of enquiry that can (assist us to) update information, help gather information, curb mis-information, fake news and unsubstantiated statements; a way to prove lies and to support truths. So, there exist the elements of research in our daily lives. This short contribution seeks to demystify the essence of research such that it becomes a daily practise.

There has been a growing interest in massive open online courses (MOOCs) amongst governments, policy makers, higher education providers — both public and private — and development agencies supporting education, ever since the first Canadian offering of an online course that drew over 2,000 students to enrol for free. MOOCs, which started as simple online courses with large enrolments, have developed into a significant innovation to increase access to lifelong learning for all. The fact that there were more enrollments
