An innovative and interactive educational process is being developed in engi-neering classes at the University of Washington, using newly devised learn-ing strategies from industry and academia combined with a unique teaching approach: integrated teams. The teams have evolved in such a way that they currently consist of professors and industry leaders as integrators and cata-lysts; senior graduate students and field specialists as facilitators; and other graduate, undergraduate, and continuing education students with diverse experiences and backgrounds. They are fused together through experiential learning and real life projects in which all are stakeholders and have a chance to influence their outcomes in real time. This article aims to explore the nature and functioning of trust in work teams. Trust is defined as a multi‐component variable with distinct but related dimensions. These include propensity to trust, perceived trustworthiness, co‐operative and lack of monitoring behaviours. A model was tested relating trust with perceived task performance, team satisfaction, and two dimensions of organisational commitment, i.e. attitudinal and continuance. Survey data from 112 teams(n=395) was collected in three social care institutions in The Netherlands. The results are supportive of a multi‐component structure for trust and of its importance to the functioning of teams and organisations. Work team trust appeared strongly related with team member's attitudes towards the organisation. The research aims at finding the communication climate of an organization in the Department of Infrastructures and Facilities of Wahid Hasyim Islamic Boarding School Yogyakarta. A pleasant communication climate of an organization is significant. A communication climate of an organization that works well will help it to achieve credibility and development. Communication climate, atmosphere, and environment, in one organization, are different from another. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. This research explains various qualitative data with a careful and meaningful description analysis. This research shows that organizations' communication climate in the Department of Infrastructures and Facilities is supported by social climate. Although in the case of communication, there is still room for improvement. Since the lack of communication, some information might not access by all of the group members. The paper provides a comprehensive insight into current trends and developments in Concurrent Engineering for integrated development of products and processes with the goal of completing the entire cycle in a shorter time, at lower overall cost and with fewer engineering design changes after product launch. The evolution and definition of Concurrent Engineering are addressed first, followed by a concise review of the elements of the concurrent engineering approach to product development and the economics of the same. PurposeThis introductory paper aims to provide a contextualization of recent research and applications on work team effectiveness in organizational contexts carried out in Spain and Portugal and to describe connections between this research and the main trends in the international scene.Design/methodology/approachSince the 1990s, new occupational and organizational realities have deepened scientific interest in work teams in both Spain and Portugal. A range of recently published (1992‐2004) works in this area are reviewed. In this paper a conceptual model is defined that can be used for the innovative design of logistic systems. The model is constructed by using the systems approach in a formal and fundamental way. It turns out that the model complies with the `hard systems approach', positioned in a trajectory according the `soft systems approach'. By this the model is an interdisciplinary tool that serves as a common frame of reference and decision making platform for the different disciplines involved. It enables unambiguous communication. Conceptual modeling of each separate discipline including their different monodisciplinary goals, is reflected by this single model. The model also serves as a facility to save design conditions and decisions for future innovations. The model forms the basis to build "shared memory".

A full understanding of how efficacy beliefs influence collective action requires considering the social nature of groups. The authors focus on collective efficacy, a shared belief that individuals hold about the group. Collective efficacy can be influenced by both individual-and group-level variables. A multilevel framework is employed to analyze the antecedents and consequences of collective efficacy in college basketball teams. Individual-level influences on collective efficacy included self-efficacy, optimism, perceptions of leader effectiveness, and perceptions of recent team performance. Group-level influences included group size, past team performance, and confident leadership. The authors also found support for collective efficacy as a shared belief. This support came from showing within-team agreement and the interdependence of team members' collective efficacy beliefs. Collective efficacy beliefs were persistent and affected group performance. Finally, the role of leadership in the creation, maintenance, and enhancement of collective efficacy was analyzed.

Specific applications of fuzzy logic in project management are relatively few in comparison to other application areas. The criteria of project cost, project time, and project quality may be considered as project management internal measures of efficiency. The objective of this research is to present an approach that employs fuzzy decision making (FDM) to combine these three measures into one measure namely the project management internal efficiency (PMIE) which should represent an overall estimate of how well the project was managed and executed. The proposed approach for the evaluation of PMIE is illustrated on a case study. A fuzzy decision making system is designed and implemented using the MATLAB software for the evaluation of the PMIE. The methodology and procedure proposed in this research may be easily implemented by project management organizations. The evaluation of PMIE can serve for project managers and for project organizations as an indicator for the level of achievement of the project management internal objectives. PMIE may help in the evaluation of the performance of project teams.
