YouTube has become a great showcase for audiovisual products and a source of income for a number of creators. Several pioneers of internet animation migrated to this platform to provide greater visibility and economic security for their productions. A group of YouTubers, so-called ‘Reply Girls’, achieved rapid economic benefits by publishing content without any value, neither artistic nor communicative, but that deceived YouTube’s remuneration system and prioritization algorithm. To fight this phenomenon, YouTube subsequently applied changes to its prioritization algorithm and monetization plans. In this article, the author examines more than 3,300 videos published by 25 animation channels between 2006 and 2018 with Digital Methods tools to analyse how the changes applied to the platform policies have influenced and shaped the evolution of animation production on the internet.

The effect of interactivity on identification with characters in audiovisual fiction was observed. 310 participants were asked to watch a film in one of these two conditions: 1) interactive (they selected the plot), and 2) non-interactive (they consumed the fiction in a conventional way). After watching the movie, they completed a questionnaire with the EDI scale of identification and empathy with characters, created by Igartua and Paez. The capacity to intervene in the configuration of the plot (interactivity) affected identification with characters. The results provide data about the psychology of media and interactivity in communication and allow us to understand the processes of empathy and identification with characters.

These research project was launched to provide scientific knowledge on a specific field: Usability and user experience methodologies. We focus on Catalonia, Spain. The Catalan video game industry is one of the most dynamic sectors, positioning itself as the driving force for the local economy.

This text is an introduction to the study led by the Observatory of Communication, Games and Entertainment. This study investigates the design methodologies of the game companies, and the extent to which the game companies utilize usability and user experience (UX) methods, and the methods they use. The respondents were professionals with different roles in game development. Game companies used multitude of design methods, some of those mentioned are: Playtesting, where potential users are made to play and both their quantitative data (time taken to complete a task, places where they get stuck or pass through too quickly, etc.)  and qualitative data (emotional reactions, comments, engagement, etc.) are observed. Heuristic evaluations are also carried out when an expert analyses the game’s ease of use. There is also A/B testing, in which design variations are launched to see which what the result of better retention and monetization will be.

Introduction: Public and private talk radio stations use social media to find new forms of content exploitation that transform the value chain of their brand and allow them to develop a different business model. Objectives: To define the synergies between conventional radio broadcasting and social networks in Spanish talk radio based on the analysis of four primetime radio shows, which are the flagship programmes of their radio stations. Method: Quantitative content analysis is used to examine the roles played by talk radio broadcasters and audiences in social networks and conventional radio broadcasting. Conclusion: Despite the increasing forms of audience participation channels, this research study demonstrates an almost total lack of interaction; which demands the establishment of synergies between conventional radio broadcasting and social media as a strategy to exploit the potential of these virtual spaces.

This article presents a summary of a research report into the state of interactive television and the different systems for interaction with television developed by the regulating authority in Catalonia (Spain). The context of the study is the European continent and it covers theoretical, technological and programming issues. The authors propose an operative definition of interactive television as a tool for developing their field of study and an original typological proposal that can classify and analyze the whole range of the present offer of interactive programs and services. Also presented throughout the article is an analysis of the different interactive services in the European continent.

To end, the authors propose a whole series of recommendations for the regulating authority as measures for promoting these types of services and applications, with particular emphasis on the role that Digital Terrestrial Television could play as a universalizing platform for access to the new services of the Information Society. Mention is made of the specific case of Catalonia as an example of the measures that should be observed for the full and integrated development of the services that are generically known as interactive television.

This article presents a proposal for the classification of the different forms used in advertising to include interactivity in communication strategies. This typology is the result of the observation and analysis of existing models and is presented as an instrument that should help develop an understanding of the phenomenon of interactivity when applied to advertising, both in its current forms and in other forms that might be derived from them in the future.

In an openly hostile environment in which public service broadcasting (PSB) has to justify its mere existence, its relationship with new technologies and its transformation into Public Service Media (PSM) have been the subject of controversy in Europe, with respect to the legitimate use of new technologies by a public broadcasting service. Making use of qualitative techniques with a case study, this article illustrates how the Catalan public broadcaster iCat fm uses diverse technological distribution platforms in order to successfully achieve its public service remit proposals and provides an example of a successful public service radio that uses diverse technological distribution platforms.

At present, the term iTV is disperse and is indistinctly applied to technologies, programs and services. This polysemy, however, prevents any efficient identification of interactive contents which, in turn, delays the formulation of regulatory and market strategies that can promote the development of more complete television consumption. This study proposes a practical and accurate classification of iTV content by type of service and programs, which could be of use to academics, industrialists and regulators. The functional typology proposed is generated on the basis of a detailed observation of the technological and audiovisual reality in Europe. This study is offered as a guide for dealing with the creation, study and regulation of advanced television programs in a context of technological mutation and convergence.

Today's complex situation is a source of concern for radio
broadcasters who, although their audiences are growing,
are witnessing a drop in advertising revenue, the basis of
their business model. Given these adverse circumstances,
their human and economic resources have been allocated to
providing a presence on a range of digital platforms. In order
to ensure a return from their efforts, radio production aimed at
online supports is mostly generated from content produced for
conventional broadcasting. This paper looks at the challenges
posed for broadcasters by the economic crisis and how they are
attempting to develop solutions in the digital era.
