Journal Table of Contents (ToC) alert service is one of the current awareness services offered by libraries. Conventionally, the alert service is delivered in the form of contents pages of journals compiled into a bulletin. With the proliferation of electronic journals, users have the provision of subscribing to e-mail based ToC alerts of individual journals. The study investigated online scholarly visibility of Library and Information Science teachers in India. Records of 154 LIS teachers were sourced from the websites of various Indian universities. Thirty one of them had profiles on Google Scholar and 28 had accounts on Mendeley. Total citation counts on Google Scholar and total reader counts on Mendeley were 3267 and 5201 respectively. Associate professors had highest average number of citations on Google scholar while professors had highest Mendeley reader counts. Average citation count on Google scholar was 105. Reader count on Mendeley averaged at 185. Correlation between citation counts and reader counts was positive (r=0.598), but not statistically significant (p value=0.052)

The study has ranked Indian Institutes of Technology based on the number of citations of top 10 profiles on Google Scholar. The methodology prescribed by the Ranking Web of Universities has been adopted. Top ten user profiles based on the number of citations on Google Scholar have been considered for each of the 23 IITs using institutional email domain. The first (top 1) profile of the list is excluded for improving representativeness. The number of citations for the rest of the top 10 profiles has been added and IITs have been ranked in the descending order of this indicator. IIT Delhi secured the top position, while IIT Goa is placed last. Seven IITs did not have institutional profile on Google Scholar, though individual user profiles use institutional email address.

National Library of India secured top position in terms of Web presence. National Library of Bangladesh outscored other libraries in Webometric ranking and occupied the top position. The websites of all National libraries considered for the study lack rich files and scholarly content. Afghanistan was excluded from the study since its National library website could not be ascertained. The study recommends that Web masters should publish more content in the form of rich files and make available more scholarly content so as to improve the Web presence and visibility.
