The need and importance, role of E-learning and information literacy for academic staff in highlighted. The paper also states that by combining the information literacy expertise from the US and Australia with e-learning solutions and the growing recognition of e-literacy in the UK, it gives a clear role for librarians in the future. In any country including India there has been significant changes and developments with the impact of ICT, Net working, Consortia approach in Library and information centers. To conclude, information Literacy programmes and E-learning have become essential to access the relevant needed information from the voluminous growth of information in this network and digital era.
This paper focuses on the use of web-based library services in India and examines how libraries i... more This paper focuses on the use of web-based library services in India and examines how libraries in the Institutions of National importance in India provide web access to their collections and other services. The study sample for the present study were Thirteen (13) institutions of National importance located at Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu states which were selected using purposive sampling technique based on the research objectives. The data was collected using a web-based survey by examining the library websites of the select institutions using a check-list of 52 items covered topics of library general information, library resources, library services, links to e-resources, Web 2.0 tools and Web 3.0 tools. This particular check-list was developed by the researchers after analyzing the related literature reviews and previous studies related to the topic. Finding shows that many of the surveyed Institutions of National importance in India’s libraries have not fully exploited the potential of the web forms, and are still lagging behind to make the effective use of library websites. Among the selected institutions, few libraries were found to offer web-based library services in different sections. The present paper highlights the present status of the web-based library services in the select Institutions of National importance in India’s librarians in Southern India. The study also highlights the role of Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 environment to enhance the quality of web-based library services and suggest new approaches for effective use of web-based library services. The current study aims to evaluate the user's satisfaction on library and information resources a... more The current study aims to evaluate the user's satisfaction on library and information resources and services in Vidyavardhaka First Grade College library in Mysore in Karnataka. The investigator has distributed 200 questionnaires to the users, out of which 171 (85.5%) questionnaires were received back. The findings of the study shows that users visited 1-2 times in a week to libraries for borrowing library books and to read materials in their specific subjects and opined that 'arrangement of text books' as impressive. In terms of overall library services majority of respondents are satisfied. The study suggested that library should play prominent role in providing information related to literacy programme and more user studies at regular intervals in their colleges to provide optimum library and information services.
