Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES BALLINGER, OF \VILKINS TOWNSHIP, ASSIGNOR TO MGKEE BROTHERS, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR BEER-MUG.
Specification forming part of Design No. 5,738 dated April 2, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES BALLINGER, of Wilkins Township, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Design for Pressed Handled Glass Beer-Mug; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an exterior side elevation of the beer-mug, and Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation thereof.
The exterior contour of my glass beer-mug is what may be termed barrel-shapedthat is to say, it is of smaller diameter at top and bottom than it is at the line was, there being a gradual swell from the base upward, and then a gradual contraction to the top of the mug. The interior shape of the mug does not, how ever, correspond to the exterior; but, from the bottom of the inside or cavity of the mug upward to the line at or above the point where the upper extremity of the handle a is united to the side of the mug, the sides are straight and very nearly parallel, there being only a very slight flaring. From the top of the pressed handle a upward to the top of the glass mug the internal diameter, as well as the external diameter of the mug is gradually contracted to the top of the mug, by drawing in, as shown more clearly in Fig. 2. where the dotted lines represent the extension of the straight lines formed by the inner surface of the mug between the bottom and the horizontal line up to the top of the mug.
My improved design has no reference to any pattern, flutings, or ornamentation of the exterior surface of the mug; but to the exterior barrel-shape, combined with the interior cylindrical shape up to the top of the handle, and the contraction from that point to the top.
I claim as my invention- The design for a pressed handled glass beermug, as hereinbefore described and shown.
1n testimony whereof I, the said CHARLES BALLINGER, have hereunto set my hand.
CHAS. BALLINGER.
