UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
J AMESFRANK TENNEY AND CHARLES F. CRANZ, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A FONT OF TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 34,053, dated February 5, 1901.
Application filed April 14, 1900. Serial No. 12.942. Term of patent 3 years.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES FRANK TEN- NEY and CHARLES F. GRANZ, citizens of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a novel Design for a Font of Type; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention.
Our invention relates to a novel design for a font of printing-type, the object being to provide a set of characters of graceful and highly-ornamental form; and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
The accompanying drawing, illustrating our design, shows a full set of characters forming a font of type.
The peculiarities of the design are that each line or curve of each character terminates in a circular enlargement at one end, producing the appearance that such lines and curves terminate in balls or globes. The horizontals of most of the characters form ogee curves. The half-ovals of letters such as B, D, P, R, and S are exaggerated. The capital letters C, O, and Q and small letters 0, o, and r have each a dot to fill out the space. The type are all solid face, the letters being of lighter face than the figures, and the punctuationmarks and miscellaneous characters-such as dz, $3, (15, dad-smaller than the letters. The capital letters I, K, M, V, W, X, Y, and Z and the small letters i, j, k, l, v, W, X, y, and z are made up of straight lines only.
We claim as our invention- The design for a font of type, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
J. FRANK TENNEY. CHARLES F. CRANZ.
Witnesses:
RUDOLPH WM. LoTz, VERNON E. I-Ionens.
