DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMAN IHLENBURG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and original Design for a Font of Printing-Type, of which the following is a specification.

My design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographical impression, to which reference is made.

The essential feature of the design is the heavy and solid appearance given to the characters and the ornamentation of a number of the characters.

The font consists of upper-case letters and numerals and a series of special mortise-letters. The mortise-letters are 0, E, F, K, L, Q, R, V, and v Each of these letters has one or two horizontal limbs which extend to the right and when the type is set up extend under or over the succeeding character. The upper portion of the letters A, B, and D have a short curved projection to the left, while the letters 0, G, O, and P of the upper case have scroll ornaments. The letters B, E, and F also have scroll ornaments. The upright lines of the letters H, M, and U taper from the bottom to the top, and the letters .O and Q are in the form of broken circles. The numerals are in keeping with the letters.

I claim The design for a font of type, substantially as described, and shown in the accompanying typographical impression.
