UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUSTIN F. JACKSON, OF TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A TEAPOT OR LIKE ARTICLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,484, dated April 19, 1898.
Application filed December 3, 1897. Serial No. 660,984. Term of patent 14 years- To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, Ausrm F. Jnoxson, a citizen of the United States, residingat Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and prod need a new and original Design for Teapots '01 Like Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
My invention is in the nature of a new design for tea, coffee, chocolate, and hot-water pots and like articles.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the teapot, and Fig. 2 a diagrammatic plan of the body portion.
The body of the pot has forits essential features an upper portion 13 of elliptical form in horizontal section and whose side walls curve inwardly to a smaller diameter at the top with a concave taper. The bottom portion of the body is octagonal, but longer in the direction of a line through the handle and the spout than it is in a direction at right angles thereto. The faces of the octagonal portion curve downwardly and inwardly with a convex convergence and join onto an octagonal base having sides corresponding to the faces A A A A, &c., as shown at C O C O, 850., two marginal heads 0 and (I being form ed at the lower edge.
The top D has for its essential features a marginal bead 6', corresponding in shape to the upper edge of the body portion B, which is also surmounted by a marginal bead e. The general contour of the top is conical, the sides being drawn on the lines of a reversed curve and changing gradually from an elliptical base to an octagonal apex, which is surmounted by a knob or finial E.
The essential features of the spout are a hexagonal cross-section at the outer end merging into a pear-shaped base, as shown by section at 5 5, the upper and lower portions of this lower portion being ornamented with downwardly-projected bulbous shoots fand f The essential features of the handle are a hexagonal body, as shown by the several cross-sectional diagrams, the lower end being ornamented with spreading bulbous shoots joining onto the rear angle of the lower body portion, while the top has a scroll It, turned inwardly and running out upon the top of the handle, as at h, and another spreading series of scrolls 'i, joining onto the concave top portion B of the body.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is The design fora teapot or like article havin g the shape and ornamentation as shown and described.
