UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUSTIN F. JACKSON, OF TAUNTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A TEAPOT OR LIKE ARTICLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,256, dated J une 29, 18973 Application filed April 22,1897. Serial No, 633,406. Term of patent 14 years.
T0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUSTIN F. JACKSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Tea and Coffee Pots, dac., of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, showing a part thereof.
My invention is in the nature of a new design for tea and coffee pots and other like articles. i
Figure l is a side view of a tea or coffee pot, showing my design; and Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of one of the su pporting-legs- The leading features of my design consist in the peculiar shape and ornamentation of the body, the legs, the handle, the spout, and the top.
The body presents an oblate spheroldal base A, having a ring of beads a at its upper edge,an octagonal upper portion A' of smaller diameter surinounted with an outturned flange and ring of beads a2, and spreading out at its lower portion a', where it joins onto the larger spheroidal portion.
The legs B are short outturned scrolls whose upper portions are spread in relief upon the smooth spheroidal base with symmetrical elorescent projections at b b on each side, and upwardly-reaching scrolls b' l b fianking a central figure b2, and a row of beads b3 in the middle line.
The handle C at the top joins onto the upper part of the body and at the bottom is attached to the greatest diameter of the spheroidal base, touching the latter and then deseending lower and turning outwardly and bearing on the sides, beads e, and scrolls c'. A little above this there are transverse bands c2 and a raised shoot or spray c3, extending upwardly alongside the handle. At the upper end the handle is thickened and bent downwardly and inwardly toward the body, and on the sides of this thickened portion and at the sharpest bend there is a globular ornament c, surrounded by scrolls c5, from the lower portion of which a series of beads or halls c6 of constantly-diminishing size extend downwardly along the handle. A surmounting lump c" is on the extreme upper edge of the bend in the handle, and transverse bands c8 cross the handle between its bend and its point of attachment to the upper part of the body.
The spout D rises from the greatest diameter of the spheroidai base with a reverse curve and a gradual taper, is hexagonal in cross-section, and on its flat side (on each side of the pot) it has in relief a serolled ornament d near the spheroidal base and extended upwardly for a short distance along the side. Near its mouth it becomes circular in cross-section and has scrolls d on its side with a series of beads or balls d2 of decreasing size extending downwardly along the side.
The topE has a circular rim e, an indented crease or groove e' above this, and then, with oetagonal sides e2 curving inwardly and up Wardly, it rises in pyrauiidal form and terminates in an ornamental iinial or tip e3, having a scalloped base in relief and a symmetrical figure with two holes or eyes through it for a handle.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim isl. In a design for a teapot or like article, the body having the shape and ornamentation as shown and described.
2. In a design for a teapot or like article, the legs having the shape and ornan1enta tion as shown and described.
3. In a design for a teapot or like article, the handle having the shape and ornamentation as shown and described.
4. In a design for a teapot or like article, the spout having the shape and ornamentation as shown and described` 5. In a design for a teapot or like article, the top having the shape and ornamentation as shown and described.
6. The design for a teapot or like article having the shape and ornamentation as shown and described.
