To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J OHN F. CUMMING, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Worcester, Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Design for Type, of which the following is a specification.

My design for a font of ornamental printing-type is fully illustrated in the accompanying typographical impression.

The essential features of the design are the curve found in the majority of the letters and the heavy face.

Referring to the upper case, the right-hand line of the letter A is vertical and heavy, while the left-hand line is slightly inclined nd light, terminating at the lower end in a rounded protuberance. The upper cross-line is light and extends over the light left-hand vertical line, while the central cross-bar is heavy.

The vertical line of the letter B is somewhat shorter than that of the letter A, and the upper curve extends to the upper line of all the letters and forms a loop against which the lower curved line abuts at the center.

The letter C is in the form of a segment of a circle having a tapered body.

The letter D is in keeping with the letter B with the exception that the curved righthand line protrudes at the center.

The letter E is in keeping with the letter C with the exception that a tongue extends from the left toward the right of the letter.

The vertical line of the letter F curves outward at the bottom and is connected to a curved line at the top. The central cross-bar of the letter extends through the vertical line and is nearly the full width of the letter.

The letter G is a segment of a circle with the lower arm in the form of a scroll.

The vertical left-hand line of the letter H is connected to a long narrow line at the top, and the right-hand line is curved.

The upper and lower bars of the letter I terminate at one end in rounded projections.

The letter J is composed of two curved lines which are connected at the upper rightand corner.

The vertical line and the diagonal line of the letter K are connected at their upper ends, and the diagonal lower line is curved.

The lower line of the letter L is zigzag.

The right-hand line of the letter M is heavy, and the left-hand line is light and is curved outward at its lower end.

' The two sides lines of the letter N are light. The right-hand line terminates in a cross-line at the top, the left-hand line terminating in a curve at the base.

The letters 0 and Q are in the form of an inclined oval having projections at the top and bottom, but the letter Q has the usual tail.

The vertical line of the letter P is heavy and is connected to the scroll by a diagonal line at the top.

The letter R is in keeping with the letter B with the exception that the lower righthand line of the letter R is curved.

The letter S has a scroll at top and bottom connected with a diagonal cross-line.

The letter T is composed of a hooked bar and a tapered cross-bar which terminates in a curve at one end.

The vertical line of the letter U is heavy, and the curved left-hand line connects with the lower portion of the right-hand vertical line. The upper bar is common to both the straight and curved lines.

The left-hand diagonal line of the letter V is curved outward at the upper end, while the right-hand line is light and is connected to a scroll at the top.

The letter WV consists of two curved lines and one straight line at the right-hand side and has a cross-bar common to all the lines.

The letter X is composed of two lines which cross each other, one being heavy and the other light, the lower end of the light line being curved and the other end having a heavy curved line attached, while the heavy line is curved on one side and beveled on the other side at each end.

The letter Y is similar to the letter V, with the exception that the light line terminates in a scroll at the base.

The lower-case letters and numerals are in 5 keeping with the upper-case letters JOHN F. OUMMING.
