UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES EDWARD HAVILAND, OF LIMOGES, FRANCE.
DESIGN FOR A COVERED DISH.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES EDWARD HAVI- LAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Limoges, in the Republic of France, have invented and produced a new and original Design t'or a Covered Dish, of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad to the accompanying d rawingL forming part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is atop View of a covered dish bearing rny design. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of same; and Fig. 3 isa detached sectional view through a portion of same on the dotted line 3-3 of Fig. l.
The leading feature of my design consists in the ornamental form and configuration of the covered dish as shown in the drawings forming a part of this application.
In the drawings A designates the body of the dish and B the cover thereof. The cover B has a raised central portion C bearing a suitable handle D and at the edge of said cover is formed the scalloped sections E from which the cover inclines upward and inward to the raised central portion C. The body A has sides which at their lower edges meet the base F, from which said sides curve outward and thence upward and are formed of the scalloped sections G, corresponding with the scalloped sections E along the edge of the cover B. Upon opposite ends of the body A are suitable handles H and upon the sides of said body A are the ornamental scrolls I. Along the edges of the cover B are the ornamental scrolls J which harmonize with the scroll work I upon the sides of the said body. The scalloped sections E, G, are elongated and on very gradual and graceful lines merge into each other aud they impart to the dish a distinctivecharacter. Theornamentalsorolls I, J, are displayed with respect to the general effect it is desired to produce in the article and they add to the attractive character of the saine.
What I claim is- The design for a covered dish, substantially as shown and described.
Signed at the city ot' Limoges, in the Republic of France, this 23d day of November, A. D. 1894:.
