Be it known that I, FREDERICK BEND, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new Design for Carpets, of which the following is afull, clear, and exact description.

This design relates to the appearance of woven carpet, produced by the combination of longitudinal stripes in colors with a twilled diamond pattern.

In the accompanying photograph of said carpet, the twilled figure runs diagonally in both directions, as shown at a a, and divides the surface up into small diamond patterns, and the Warps are of different colors in stripes, as at c d c f, which stripes are repeated Width- Wise of the carpet. The peculiar artistic effect produced by the diamond pattern and the longitudinal stripes is pleasing to the eye in carpets of this class, and forms a new and ornamental design that is not dependent upon any particular colors of the stripes, as these may be varied.

I claim as my invention- The ornamental design for a carpet, consisting in the longitudinal stripes and the diagonal diamond pattern, substantially as represented.
